MEMBER REVIEWS: The BIG TaylorMade TP5 / TP5x ball testing thread

Let me ask it another way

In general, any views on distance, just distance on tp5 vs tp5x

driver in particular, but otherwise if relevant as well

I found tp5 noticeably shorter than tp5x

i am around 100mph +/-

wondering if that was what others have found

much appreciated

I did not notice a big distance gain/loss between the balls. When I tested these on courses they were about equal in all areas. I would say the TP5X was maybe 2 yards longer for me, but felt off like others have mentioned.

For what it's worth, I went back to the launch monitor last night (Golf Tec, so a nice Foresight monitor) and hit a bunch more 8 irons with the V1x and TP5x. My average carry with the TP5x was 163 -- the exact same average that I had last time. The V1x carry was less consistent and went up to 161 from 158.

I guess, at least in a controlled environment, the TP5x is more consistent than what I initially thought.

It should also be noted that I'm a Titleist fan boy, so I came into testing with the V1x as the front runner, but I think I'll stick with the TP5x for a while.

I've had no issues in terms of iron shot distance consistency. The TP5X definitely launches a tad higher, flies about a half to a third of a club farther with the irons, is extremely stable in the wind, and is as long as any ball I've played with the driver.

Honestly, it's hard for me to fault it on any level, including feel. I'm in the northeast and in previous years would switch to a lower compression ball in the winter like the Penta or Chrome Soft, but this year I've just stuck with the TP5X and it has continued to perform very well! It's hard for me to imagine a better golf ball for my game. I just hope TM doesn't change it!

(And I'm no TM fanboy. The only TM club I own is an M2 Tour 3 wood)

Old thread but I am not sold on TP5x or TP5 yet.

TP5X to me feels like crap chipping and putting, very clicky. Just not my taste.

Played TP5 for first time. I want to love this ball, but I had some a very unusual day. I had some monster drives. I loved it off the putter. Iron play and wedge play, I'm just not sure. Hit it much further several times then I was expecting. It was not a good day. I did struggle that day with my swing, so perhaps that is it. Wednesday, I will find out for sure.

I really need to land on a new ball. I was hoping this would be it as I like the feel and sound.
