I got a 6 pack of TP5 yesterday my mom called to say she got a 6 pack of Tp5x delivered to her house for some reason. I now have about 1.25 dozen TP5 and 1.75 dozen TP5x. from my comparisons so far the 5x is my ball of choice but the regular 5 is more than fine for casual rounds or rounds on firm greens.

I look forward to reading all the feedback. My own testing on Trackman had the TP5X 11 yards longer than the next best ball (B330) with a 6 iron. Total spin for the 6 iron was 3900.

Not sure I would want a 6 iron spinning that low. Seems like it wouldn't hold a green very well

Actually it holds quite well. The apex is around 150 so the height definitely helps. Mainly used as a lay up off the tee.

Just wanted to come back and say that after a week in Scotland putting the TP5 and 5x to the ultimate test the ball performed beautifully in the wind. I ended up playing both on accident The TP5 flew noticeably lower off the tee but even with its higher flight I never really noticed the 5x being eaten up by moderate winds 10-15 mph. The ball held its own stopping power wise as the greens were much more receptive than I had envisioned. I decided the 5x was going to be my main ball a long time ago but this week really convinced me that it was the right choice.

No problems getting 36 out of a single ball durability wise either.

I'm still loving this ball as much as I was when I received my test dozen from Taylormade. The ProV continues to be too spinny for my liking. While the TP5x does reduce spin, it launches higher and has a steeper landing angle. Therefore I've had no problem holding greens at all. Awesome ball speeds too. This is my tournament ball and will be for the foreseeable future.

I prefer the tour preferred over the TP5x. TP5x has a strange feel to me - almost like you can feel a ball inside a ball instead of a solid one piece feel (know there both multi layer balls). This strange feel messes up feed back. hard to tell exactly how well i hit it/ Cant tell subtleties of contact. Also feels weird on shot pitches and chips - like I,m not in control of how it reacts. Inconsistent how it reacts on short shots

Too bad TM changes balls too often and if you like a prior model it will become obsolete and discontinued. Same will happen with TP5X soon

The prior TP line was at retail for two years before being replaced by the TP5 line. With as much attention and success the TP5 had, I can’t see this ball being replaced for the 2018 season.

Titleist changes their ball every two years—often with significant performance differences—and no one complains. Why? Because the name stays the same.

I have switched from pro v (x) to the tp5x

I was able to spend an hour and a half on a launch monitor comparing both the 2017 V1x and the TP5x last weekend. Basically, the TP5x spins a little less of the driver, a lot less off the mid and short irons, and about the same from 100 yds and in. The only complaint I have about the TP5x is that my yardages weren't as consistent (below are averages).

Here are some numbers:

  • Driver:
    • V1X

What was your conclusion after the testing?

After I looked at the numbers, I decided to stick with the V1x -- my distances were more consistent and I don't need a few extra yard on my mid-short irons. However, I played the next day, spun three short irons of the front of greens and promptly bought a dozen of the TP5x's. I still think the V1x is more consistent in terms of distance control and that the excessive spin on short irons is a swing issue, but there is nothing worse than hitting a shot pin high and watching it suck off the front of the green. I'm sure I'll rocket a few short irons over greens with the TP5x and go back to the V1x but, for now, I'm sticking with the TP5x.

Bottom line: TP5x spun less, launched a little higher, flew a little farther (especially with mid-short irons), and had more than enough stopping power around the greens.

Don’t be afraid of the TP5 either. You may find it more consistent and distance and spin.

Oh my gosh, here I thought it was my imagination the TP5x balls seemed a little "squirrely"! Loved the distance gain over the ProV1's off the tee but a lot of inconsistent iron distances. It wasn't until I went back to the ProV1's for comparison. Sucks the Prov1 is shorter off the tee but need more consistency on iron and wedge shots.

TM don't particularly care, so make sure you check for cracks during play.

It happen to me on PROV1x and when trying out the Callaway Supersoft.

I sent the ball to Titleist and Titleist sent it back to me saying they cant do nothing about it because is an old model :)

When i sent the crack ball to Callaway, i got a letter saying they will investigate what happen and they care. Along with the letter they sent me two dozen Supersoft 1 box of white and 1 box of yellow. Kudos to Callaway.

...I tried TP5x and so far so good, but gaming the KSIG now.

I had a couple “jumpers” with the TP5X. It was longer, but the TP5 is long enough and enough spin for me. I could play either one. Just thought the TP5 was the natural evolution from the TP/TPX family
