Justin Thomas' Distances

Ok the more and more I look at the pga stats club speed list the more I find discrepancies.

They have Rahm ranging from 112.37-119.57 with a 115.99 average. When I watched the matchplay, I don't think I saw Rahm dip below 118mph on trackman and they were showing it and shot tracer every time they could.

Edit: And Spieth's highest recorded speed for the season is 113.63 with an average of 111. No way that's right.

Spieth isn't that long compared to most of the guys out there.... Justin Thomas blows it by him. Also JT's numbers aren't too different than Tiger's numbers that someone screenshotted and posted to this thread. Tiger's irons are at least 1/4" short compared to JT's and his lofts are basically a club weaker as well... so there really isn't much difference at all.

Also keep in mind if you look at the radar stats from the tour there is no guarantee that the player hit driver so those skew the numbers quite a bit... I saw Rahm hit 3 wood on a hole they picked up radar stats last week so that's gonna put a dip into his average speed...

If you put Spieth in a group with the long hitters on tour... he's hitting first for sure.

You do realize that you are sort of repeating what I've said for the entire thread right? But not realizing that I've said it.

And yes, we know Tiger plays weak lofts and slightly short irons. Me too! Lol

Also, yes I realize that Jordan is shorter than the long guys but he isnt 150th on tour in swing speed like pga stats says he is. Thats just asinine. And that was my point in posting about it earlier. It was garbage stats. The pga swingspeed stats are way off!

They are not way off. They are accurate. They are just such a small sample size, as someone above noted, that they are worthless.

So Billy Horschel cranked one up to nearly 143mph? :cheesy: That's not accurate. And yes.. I was the one who noted that they were worthless.

Ok, just in general they are right. :) As in Spieth's sound about right considering the small sample size. But yeah, we all know that occasionally any system will give crazy numbers now and then.

I can see where they may be in the general ballpark if you account for 3 woods and irons off some tees given the small sample size.

This has gotten way off the rails :offtopic2: I apologize to everyone for that.

I swing around 105 and can get it out there pretty far.

Long enough to make a course play short.

I hit +4 up with a draw with very good efficiency.

I hit a few the last round in the 320-340yrd mark.

High launch low spin and good fairways.

Add 20mph more ball speed and carry would be 310.

The average senior tour player swings it at 106 and carries it 255 (274 total). I guess you must hit the sweet spot better than they do. The average PGA tour player that swings 120 (not many of them do) carries it on average around 290.

id say my carry would be around 260-270 on a good strike. I defiantly wouldn't strike it as well as consistently as a touring pro obviously.

I am a PGA member but defiantly not a tour player

Just saying those distance will be correct..

They will be the best of the best but thats what you'd work with at there level..

Amazing

Amazingly optimistic for 105 mph unless the fairways are asphalt hard and with a 25 mph tail wind.

320-340 at 105 mph would either have to be at 6000+ foot elevation WITH a ton of roll, downhill, with a tailwind. That's 50-70 yards beyond the optimal carry number for that swing speed and totally unrealistic except at extreme elevation with additional other aiding factor added in.

Would be good to know the lofts of each iron. And the tru loft when he played then. If PW is 46* and he delofts it with a weak grip and closed face at the top it isn't a long way at all. Club plays like 41-42 then.

Cant remember what his face position is like that the top. Anyone got a screen shot of the swing?

I know a 47 year old who played d1 golf hits nothing but trap draws hits 8 irons 190. Distance is only a big deal to those who don't have it

100%. That and most people boasting about distances are really just pulling their irons with only about 4,000 rpm of spin and missing greens. "I hit my 7 iron 200."....yeah right into the hazard. It's a game of accuracy. What makes JT special is he can crush it and get his ball to stop on a dime within 10 ft to pin.

That's also JTs biggest weakeness imo. I remember agreeing with a lot of people who thought Jason Day couldn't get any better than he was 3 yrs ago because all he could do was coil himself up like a gymnast and lash at the ball. All of a sudden dude figured out he'd be so much better if he could hit partial shots, feel shots, lighter swings. When Day figured that out he became the owgr #1. That and he looked deadly with that itsy putter but that's a diff story.

Point is, distance only impresses those without it and I completely agree! If half of us cared about precision and putting we'd actually be better players.

Amazing.. Ive hit 400 yd drives with 25mph tailwinds. The day you see me claim that I move it 4 hundy is the day yall need to tell me to put the bottle down. We should never use our "best numbers" in regards to any distance claims.
