A great talent. Much of my youth spent listening to Soundgarden and other Cornell fronted stuff. His influence will be missed for sure.

Incredible voice, probably one of the best of our generation.

He could definitely hit notes that I don't think any other singer could hit in the grunge genre.

I wore the Superunknown CD out in 94'.

Life was pretty easy for the programmers at MTV at that time. I think they just put Black Hole Sun on a loop for 24 hours.

No doubt he was good everywhere! I do think some of the younger crowd associate him with audioslave and don't realize about soundgarden or just don't know about them because that is beyond their years.

Soundgarden was an amazing band. Audioslave was an incredible band. Temple of the dog was fantastic! Chris Cornell was an unbelievable musician/artist, and his talents will be missed.

When Weiland, who was my favorite singer from that era of rock, passed away I wasn't nearly as disappointed as I was yesterday after hearing about Cornell. Chris was still making relevant music long after the rest from the era. I prefer the Soundgarden songs overall only for the fact that I have come to absolutely loathe the impending Tom Morello 'guitar solo'. When listening at work I usually just fast forward through the solo. Say Hello to Heaven from TotD has to be one of the best, if not the best, vocal recordings in rock over the past 25 years.

This morning there is some speculation that taking some extra anti-depressants may have triggered it but we should wait for the official word. It must have been tough as a recovering addict to have to take anti-depressants with those side effects.

I would say Chris is probably my 4th or maybe even 5th favorite singer from that era even though I might agree he had the best recorded voice. With Weiland, Staley and Cobain it wasn't that unexpected. The passing of Cornell hit me like a ton of bricks much like the passing of Hoon. If pressed to answer who I will miss the most I would think it would go in this order.

1) Cornell

2) Hoon (because we only got one great album + 2 great songs outside that album before he passed)

3) Staley

4) Cobain

5) Weiland

I remember going to an STP concert in 2000 and Weiland did the entire show in a wedding dress.... One of the strangest and coolest things that I have ever been to.

Glad I saw him a week before in Indy. It was a great show.

Me too. I saw Soundgarden in Jacksonville at the end of April.

In my opinion, whether you like his stuff or not, Chris Cornell is one of the top 10 greatest singers of all time. His range was ridiculous.

-I know the link below is subjective but....

And he was a true artist. Not just a singer. You all know this, so I am preaching to the choir.

The thing with Soundgarden is that they were a collection of artists who were at the top of their respective instruments. Quite frankly, they were all just so gifted. And Cornell was arguably the most talented.

Man, the world is a little darker now that he is gone.

I'm a school teacher and in between classes, I've been playing his music for my students as they go to their next period. It's neat to see some of them stop and just listen.

Some of my favorites for them:

Tighter and Tighter.

Searching with my Good Eye Closed

Room a Thousand Miles Wide

Fell on Black Days

My Wave

Slaves and Bulldozers

I bought the "black hole Sun" album when I was a kid (cassette - yes, that shows my age)...I bought his first solo on disc when it came out - there were some good songs on there.

Why would you commit suicide? Did he overdose? That's sad.

This was the first single he released as a solo artist. "Can't change me". This is the CD I got. I love this song. The album wasn't as strong all the way through but there were some good tracks on there.
