Installing a ping adaptor into shaft, shaft question?

I think I know the answer to this but just wanted to make sure? I am going to install a Ping G30 tip onto a shaft that was pulled from another head. The shaft is not hollow because it has what I can only guess is the extra epoxy still in the hollow area. What should I use to remove this, heat the shaft up and it will pop out on its own, or leave it cool and drill it out?

Or you could just leave it as is. It shouldn't affect anything

The air can escape up the side of the shaft. There is no ferrlue that can stop the air coming up the sides.Ping used to include a ribber plug with the G25 series of adaptors to be used in the shaft tip to prevent epoxy going into the shaft.

Well, see, this is why I ask, thank you for the info, that will make it even easier!

Don't count on it being that simple.

The presence of a ferrule or not doesn't really have anything to do with it. It depends on how well you epoxy the tip (and how thick the epoxy is) and how tight a fit the shaft is with the adapter. For most, the air being trapped would be a problem and it would be much simpler to just drill out the tip. But then I hate a loose fitting shaft and never over prep and also use a good thick epoxy so without a proper passage up the center of the shaft for the air to escape, so I will always get an air bubble trying to push the adapter back off again. Actually, it happens sometimes anyways when graphite tip weights are used even if they are designed with an air passage. Hold it down long enough and the pressure will usually equalize eventually but that's not quick so you also generally have to clamp it down so it doesn't decide to push it's way off as soon as your back is turned. And yes, in the early days, there were a few times where after getting a trapped air bubble, I did come back the next morning to find the head or adapter only half way on.

But the best way to avoid drilling if you really must, is only put epoxy on about 3/4 of the circumference of the shaft tip. That will leave a passage for the air to escape. Slip the adapter on without twisting until it's reached full insertion depth - then twist it to spread the epoxy all around the full circumference of the shaft tip. And BTW, a little prayer that you have enough epoxy in there and it really did spread out properly couldn't' hurt - as you'll never be able to verify it until you start hitting balls.
