Modern Day Adams 9015D Driver??

chrisp

Recommended Posts

So I still play a 10.5 degree Adams 9015D driver (Whiteboard 73 stiff) and currently trying to find a replacement in case it was to ever break or I was to lose it.

If I could find another one I would buy it as it is the most anti-hook driver I have ever played.

For me a lot of drivers are hook machines and I am not going back down road.

Also, the 9015D is not lacking distance.

Is there a driver on the market that is the modern equivalent of the 9015D?

I played the 9015 for a few years and it was definitely an open faced anti left driver. I would say a Ping LS is a good open faced option.

Cobra LTD HZRDUS 75g 6.5 (Synergy Black 70TX tipped 1/2")
Ping 2014 Rapture 3W - Blueboard 73x5ct
Cobra F8 3 hybrid (HZRDUS Black 85 6.5)
4 Hybrid...
Srixon Z545 5-AW (SF i110 stiff)
RTX 3.0 - 54 and 58 (SF i125 stiff)
Ping Ketsch Mid

The Ping G LS might perform similar in terms of spin but i agree it looks nothing like it.

The 9015d was a truly open faced club with a legit pear head with no graphics. There are very few drivers on the market that are like that anymore.

My thinking is that the 917D3 is probably the closest i've hit that look like it. But i didn't find the 917 to be too great on the performance side. If you're going to buy a new driver i wouldn't say it's all that hot compared to 2017 drivers. I liked the F6+ Cobra that came with the Black Tie, it was a small classic head and if you got the black version it wasnt super distracting.

The Epic is like the 9015d in spirit because it's a low spin muted bomber. But i'd consider the Epic's long lost homage to be to the original Ping Rapture more than the 9015d. The Adams had more feel then the Epic. The Callaway is so numb you'd think it was prepped to take out it's wisdom teeth

Epic Sub Zero - open face & very anti-hook. It's a low spin beast & extremely forgiving

I played a 9.5* 9015d with a Blueboard 63 tipped 1" for two seasons - Epic Sub Zero is so good though, encouraged me to sell all of my back-ups

  • 3 years later...

Resurrecting an old topic, but after some unbelievable frustration of inability of keeping my Mizuno ST190 from hooking off the planet, I ordered a TSI3.  While waiting for it to be delivered, I dug out the old trusty 9015D with a Miyazaki Kusala 7x.  Immediately, things straightened out and I hit 12/14 fairways in my most recent round (compared to previously struggling with getting to 50%).  All with no loss of distance.

Given the new tech, is there anything similar to the 9015D in recent years (deep face, sits open, low spin, nearly impossible to snap hook).  If the TSI3 doesn't work out, I'm pretty happy to go back to this 12 year old club, but presumably something similar exists with a bit more tech built in.  Thanks!

I know you're probably well-aware of this option, but you might look to the TS4? Based on what I've been hearing, the TSi3 will likely do the trick for you w/ more forgiveness. Just wanted to shout out the TS4, as it has been great for me since starting to play it at the end of this season.

Well, I've mentioned this before - I'm back using my old 9015d with a new Diamana ZF shaft, and was also thinking of what if...

I'd be looking to test the Wishon and get fit with a Wishon 519 SHPR

Thanks @leftymatt.  I'm hoping TSI3 hits the mark here, but good to know I'm in the ballpark.  I'll give the TSI3 a fair shake, and perhaps if it doesn't work out, TSI4 will be out by then!

From an aesthetics and performance standpoint, the 9015D is one of the GOATs!  When the shaft failed, I almost ended up a professional curler!  I've found the M3, M5, and SIM to be quite anti-left when paired with toe-biased hotmelt and/or heavier weights.

I took the 9015D (9.5 deg, Miyazaki Kusala Black 72x) to go head to head against a TSI3 at the PGASS (8 degree, stock Tensei White 65x).  Alternating back and forth the TSI3 had about 4-6 MPH more ball speed than the 9015, and lower spin by ~400-500 MPH, I'm assuming in part due to the lower loft.  Overall carry distance was 10-15 Yds more than the 9015.

But man, I've had some good times with the 9015D, including 3 rounds this month, and realized I will never get rid of this club.
