TopGolf : Future of Golf?

went to my first TOP GOLF facility in VA.. have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes. crappy clubs et al , it was packed with younglings, oldlings and all. Above all people were having fun and swinging golf clubs.

Future of golf is an exaggeration but i was impressed with the number of people in my group who wanted to take the game up after hitting a few good shots from my limited coaching. Alcohol induced maybe but overall an impressive venture for whoever came up with it.

Topgolf is a blast. I have several friends that go 2-3 times a week that have never played a round of golf, and don't appear to have any interest in ever actually playing. It's always fun though.

It's the future of golf for the masses of sheeple looking for something fun to do until something else comes along.

I think it's the equivalent to Brunswick bowling allies, paintball facilities, and electronic dart boards in bars. It's peaked the social interest of non golfers, the same way the local driving range has, in terms of people just stopping in and grabbing a bucket and club out of the bin, and swinging away. Only now, we have added alcohol, music, bright lights, and also like bowling allies, a tangible way of scoring for friendly competition.

I doubt it'll transition more people into actual golfers, but it's fun to see more people interested in doing something outside of arguing politics on facebook and playing video games.

Maybe they will develop software to identify talent, holding a contest and offering a spot on a minor tour to one standout..

It's a funny prop, but Zwift does this with their cycling training app..

Don't know if it's the future of golf, but it does seem to fit in with the younger generation better with the way things are now(constantly texting, shortened attention span and all that). Been several times myself, and had a lot of fun, but never will it replace the real thing for me.

TopGolf is fun enough on the occasion, but I will always prefer the real deal.

W/R/T the clubs (the ones they have there are super awful); the Four Seasons in downtown Houston added a TopGolf room as part of the remodel of their restaurant/bar. Its a private room with two Trackmans and software that duplicates the TopGolf experience. Went recently and in addition to the normal TopGolf clubs they had Callaway bags with new Steelhead irons and Epic 3Ws (I got hooked on the Epic). Had a blast (the bottle of burbon we finished with lunch probably didn't hurt) and highly recommend.

I think it's a great place to take a date who isn't a true golfer themselves. You have the ability to show off your swinging prowess and give them some helpful tips while enjoying some food and libation. Is it the future of golf? No. Is it an alternative to a 4-5 hour round? Not really. I feel it's a supplement to a miniature golf date which can be very enjoyable with the right member of the opposite sex.

i get frustrated because of the slow play. the automatic tee thingy isnt quick enough and i hate when the other guys in the group cant keep up and the rear net is only 250 yards so when im starting to really pound my 7i i get bored just smashing the net

j/k ive liked it the handful of times ive gone, i like the games and the atmosphere.

I have yet to go because the closest facility is 1.5-2 hours away, but I am so unbelievably excited to give it a shot. I've drafted a piece for Golf WRX that ties in very nicely to Top Golf. I realize that sounds vague and therefore kinda lame. I said it that way on purpose as I obviously don't want to show my cards yet. When I get the article the way I want it, I'll publish it...

Suffice it to say I think it is the first "product" that I've seen which fills a very interesting void. And I think it does it quite well. At least I think it does. Like I said, haven't gotten to try it yet...
