TV picture setting

Samsung comes with 4 standard settings.

 

Dynamic, Standard, Natural,Movie.

 

I use standard for watching sports, tv news, most stuff

 

But any movies, or games of thrones type series etc, I put on "movie". It dulls out al lot of the vibrant red, blue, green, but it seems to convey more of the intended tone/feeling of intent. Since I started doing this, I find watching movies and most current series look comical looking in "standard."

 

Just curious if anyone else thinks this as well.

I have all Samsung TVs.. I stay away from standard and Dynamic... dynamic is absolutely awful and blinding... I have 1 tv which was setup professionally. It looks really good. But for the most part I use either natural or movie... depends on the tv really

When I bought a new Sony awhile back, used the following site to calibrate the settings. Look up your model to see the composite results. Not the equal of a professional calibration, but better than I could obtain "blindly" fiddling with the numerous settings. Only setting I changed from the recommendation was to set the picture at natural rather than movie (IIRC). Liked the results, never have adjusted it since. If for some reason your model is not listed, there are other sites on the net (CNET) that provide this info.

If you're used to watching a TV with wild, over-saturated colors, it can be difficult to watch a properly calibrated set. However, having a properly adjusted set allows you to see the picture that the director intended you to see.

 

A professionally done calibration, which includes setting the grayscale, is the ideal way to go. One can do a reasonable job themselves (minus grayscale) using one of the many calibration discs. Starting with a known setup, and adjusting from there, is not a bad way to go. Since each set is different, minor tweaks are usually needed.

 

For the most part, folks don't set the black level correctly, which results in washed out dark areas.

 

I believe Movie mode is the closest to a proper starting point as one can get.

More than just white and black levels, you should turn off all of the other "enhancements” manufacturers add. Look up the "soap opera effect". These filters are not needed, as everything coming into the TV is digital

Look up your TV and they will tell you "ideal settings" base upon whatever formula they have. Usually looks great to me.
