Putter length issues.

To preface I am a shorter fellow about 5'6" and I've been putting with 32-33.5 putters for years. Yesterday I got a new spider tour in and it was 35". Before I took it to my guy to get it cut down and regripped i rolled some putts on my putting green and it actually felt a lot more comfortable at this length. I know I read everywhere that the majority of us shorter guys need shorter putters but I was curious if anyone else in my shoes prefer a "longer" putter. I think I'm gonna stick with the 35 for a while. Thanks!

Rather than guess, why not get a putter fitting. I'm 5'11" with very long arms. I was playing 35" putters. Went to a SAM fit. Changed me to 33" and never looked back. You might be better at 34 or may be 33 is what you need. But until you get fit its all guess and feel.

All depends on how you set up doesn't it......I'm 5'9" and play a 33" putter which I actually grip down on slightly

Wrist to floor measurement is much more relevant than height alone.

remember that as you change lengths and posture you may also want to be sure you get the lie angle correct. depending on setup players of different height or arm length may use similar length putters, but they probably don't use the same lie angle.

A big part of your putter length is determined by posture and comfort. There could be an "ideal" length for you, or you can stick to what you are comfortable with and think works for you.

The fact that your finding the longer putter more comfortable may be because you are standing more erect and thats easier on your back at address. Its good to have a comfortable putter length but its at least equally important to make sure your eyes are over the ball - eyes beyond cause a pull; eyes inside cause a push. Its a fundamental of good putting.

 

And while your at it, check to make sure the putter head is level at address, not toe up or heel up.

 

 

Ideally, you should be bent over approximately 45°, hands hanging relaxed under your shoulders to create the proper swing plane that will give the most consistent (square) face angle at impact.

I'll echo those that say "play what feels good." I switched to 38" Scotty Dual Balance and grip it around the 36-37" range. It's been a game changer yip wise, but I also see the line better. And with that long grip, I can choke down when needed. The SAM lab would likely put me into about 34" but its never met my yippy stroke.

Do this. I think playing something that you comfortable with is huge. I have played with a 37 inch putter for years. It is a Ping Zing 2 that I got in the early 90s. I have tried many others but always go back to it.

I've been a 33" guy forever. Was playing with putters. Started making everything with a putter that was 34". After a while I put the putter away and noticed the same putter in 33" so I grabbed it...and started missing left. Same exact putter, grip, lie, etc and was missing left with my normal putter length.

 

Putter was a sigma g kushin that I'll soon own.

5'10 33.5" 2 degree up and 330g havent looked back since.
