More forgiving forged cavity backs...

Most all of the options offered are not going give you any more forgiving performance in the long irons. Maybe more to the point, not really much forgiveness at all. The 2014 JPX EZ Forged irons are excellent, but I never got consistent results below the 6. If you want forged and easy as pie long irons, the Bridgestone JGR Hybrid Forged irons are unbelievably. They have JDM numbering, so the 5 iron is really a 4 and I'm always amazed how easy it is and long, long, long. Ditto for the 6 & 7 aka 5 & 6.

I like my irons to provide adequate distance on a toe hit, while "telling" me via feel that I mishit the ball on the toe. This is why I play the older Hogan Apex Edge forged irons, CB with a pocket through the set. MX200s and clubs like that will provide similar forgiveness with feel, but their shorter irons don't have the pocket back, so the feel changes.

Other irons will provide that feel + forgiveness, of course, but I did not feel it so much with the AP2s. I haven't tried other new irons with tungsten and multi-metals, so I wonder if you lose some feel with those, as well.

JPX-900's forged are very good. I have those and the JPX900 tours. For me JPX900 forged are more forgiving and longer than my other mizunos(starting with MP-32's, 54, 64, 69). of course the lofts are stronger.

It really is going to come down to you ... an iron that is super forgiving for one can be so-so for another. For myself I love my 32s (down to my 4i) - to some they are MBs ... to others they are CBs - to me they just work. My MP-53s would be a distant second ... in fact, I would rather play my old Hogan CFTs (SGI) irons over my 53s, however, they are not legal for local tournaments.

We have all been through the club-choosing agony and ecstasy. It is a rollercoaster of wanting the most expensive irons, to keeping the old favorites, to knowing in your heart what you really want are the clubs that are best suited to your game.

I have done surgery on myself and cut my fantasy golf ideals away from the practical golf that works.

I love Hogan clubs. I'm a senior player who needs forgiveness and feel, and I settled on the 2001 Hogan Apex Edge irons (part for love of Hogan, part for budget). They look like a lot of the new irons today with cavities and pockets. In fact, I tested these irons against AP1 and AP2 irons, and Mizzy MX-200s, and the others came up short of distance and loss of accuracy. Plus, I didn't like how they looked. So I was happy in Hogan heaven.

But I am always reading and researching, particularly what others consider the best clubs in their experience. Mizzy MP53 irons came up frequently in the forgiving and forged feel category. So much so, that I purchased the cheapest iron off the Bay I could, a 9-iron.

I loved it. So I bought a whole set of irons. In short, the MP53s were as long as my Hogans but I hit them much more accurately. I will try them again to be sure, but I really like the feel of these irons. My Hogans have graphite shafts (my quest to have light clubs for my wrist tendonitis) and the Mizzys have steel, but don't weight much more and were fine.

My test of accuracy was with the shorter irons, 8-PW, the scoring irons. All of the Hogan Apex Edge irons have a pocket cavity. The Mizzy's however don't have a pocket on the 8-PW. I actually think that made the difference in accuracy and chips. Why? I have no idea.

My point of this post is that when choosing clubs, I suggest that you be honest with yourself and seek the evidence of truth about a set of clubs by hitting the range or a pro with Trackman. You can't argue with results.
