Plum Creek was in good shape yesterday BUT they need to tack ball mark repair instructions over their urinals.

I realize they get a lot of play but I was dodging old crappy ball marks all day.  Pretty course and challenging but fair.

Would like to play it again but not for $70.

Anyone know what Bear Slide and Purgatory are looking like right now?

So that's why my long eagle putt hung on the lip on #2?  At least you were kind enough to give me par.

Played Bear Slide last Sunday. Tee to green, in excellent shape. The greens were good, but did have a fair amount of ball marks. You could tell they have been receiving a lot of foot traffic.

I came down from Chicago and it was so nice to play a course that had well groomed bunkers. With the COVID no-rake rules, many Chicago-area courses are either making half-hearted attempts at bunker maintenance, or have given up all together. The bunkers at Bear Slide were stellar.

Hello everyone.

I haven't read through every page of this thread yet, but was directed here by HoosierHacker89.  I'll be relocating to IND around first of Oct and should most of my weekends free since my family is staying back in OH.  Hopefully I can get in some fall rounds at some of the most recommended courses in this thread as I have time to read through it before the snow falls!

I'll be staying on the North side near 86th and Payne just inside the beltway, so what are my best options to start from that point, and approx. drive times and tee time availability for a single on a weekend?  I'm not sure of my availability this fall due to the new job, but would love to hook up with a group of guys who like to have fun, play fast, maybe drink a little beer, and wager some "just to keep it interesting".

I'm 53 years old, a 6 index, and have been a Ranger at a city owned course for about the last 15 years.  I can usually play both days on a weekend and maybe occasionally once during the week.  My family is staying back in OH, so I will be traveling back about every 2-3 weeks.  I'm willing to travel a bit for an outstanding track, but currently coming from a city course in Akron OH that has a pretty "regular" group of characters and would like to find a "Home" course over there where I could build new friendships and golfing buddies.  So far it looks like Purgatory, Trophy Club, and Bear Slide are top contenders?

Our normal groups usually play what we call the "Greek Game", which is basically low ball/low total and play off the low guy's cap, start at 2$ for each, birdies pay double for that hole, and you can Press any time you are down.  We also add team greenies in, which count the same as whatever the low ball/total is currently pressed up to on that hole.  We also play "IP"s, which is whoever has the the low Gross score on any par 3 gets payed $2 by everyone else in the group on the next tee ("IP" stands for Instant Pay, not Installment Plan).

To put that last part in perspective, I have a buddy from Akron who now lives in Elkhart.  When I was in IND in June I asked him about getting together to play, but I was not getting up 4:30am to make the 3 hour drive for an 8:00 tee time, and only play for $5/$5/$5, then have a 3 hour drive back to my hotel.  I like to have something on the line in other words.  Not crazy $, but not just a few dollars either.  I'm not a hustler or sandbagger, but like to play for some coin.

Welcome aboard. I think where you are moving is somewhat close to Eagle Creek, which has 36 (Sycamore > Pines) and a solid enough range for practice. But you're not far from any of the top their courses on the northside, or even the Brickyard. Bear Slide, Purgatory, Prairie View, Plum Creek, Brickyard, Trophy Club, and The Fort are usually recognized as the top courses on this side of town. But golf here is very affordable, and there are a lot of courses at all tiers, and our group usually plays all over the place. Even Purdue is an easy drive, as are the south side courses, and Royal Hylands out in Knightstown or Rock Hollow in Peru. Being near 465 helps.

We have a pretty solid group, and we do gamble from time to time, usually just skins. Though I'm never against to something more fun or a Nassau on the side. We range in age from 30 to whatever marmooskapaul is, and in handicap from 0-20. Everyone plays fast and fun and we joke around more than anything. I probably play the most of the group, and my work schedule is allowing me to get out more than usual in the fall. Whenever you get to town and want to get out, let me know via PM or all of us here in the thread.

Welcome Hdog!

You're gonna fit right in.  Our stakes are pretty low but you'll have a great time from what you've described (fun, beer, repeat).

Played Crooked Stick yesterday and it was in pristine condition.  HARD greens and FAST.  Rough around greens was US Open like.  Pretty much required a sand shot to get out-n-on.  Great day.

Thanks for the welcome/info everyone.  Is Eagle Creek probably my best bet to get in a quick 9 after work giving that I'll be working on W 74th between Zionsville and Georgetown Rd?

Saddlebrook is close as well. it was closed for a while before reopening in 2018. Played it only once shortly after it reopened, and it was ok, but had some healing to do as you might expect. Not sure if anything has changed in 2 years, don't hear about it very often.

Unless there's a corp event, I've found Eagle Creek to be easily accessible most days.

I actually had a tee time scheduled for Eagle Creek as a single first or second off on a Saturday when I was over there in June, but it was raining sideways all weekend so I just bagged the whole thing.  I've read online they have a good practice facility with somewhat decent range balls - can anyone confirm?

I'll bring my own sticks this fall, but won't be traveling back and forth with them every time I go home.  I have my "Akron" bag set, and will need and "Indy" set that I accumulate over the winter - will need some quality range time to do some testing.  Good news is I get to try some new clubs, bad news is my wife won't be any the wiser on any long skinny boxes that show up on the front porch. (Wait, that's good news also!)

EC has 2 putting greens and a pretty wide, lighted driving/hitting range.  Balls are not Prov1's but not bad either.

Thanks Bob Cat, very useful info.  By the way, do you have any "connections" that could still get me a SLDR C?  I'll be starting over from scratch when I start building my IND set, and will start at the top of the bag.

I’d like to shout out to the players club I’m Muncie. The course was in fantastic shape a couple weeks ago when we played it. Everyone in the Indy area should make the trip up this year.
