Why are We the Left Handed Golfers?

Think about it, we stand on the Right side of the ball, our Right hand is at the end of the grip, If you hit the ball up the Right side of the fairway(or Right field for that matter), that’s the side of the ball we stand on, but we’re called left handed. Is it based on baseball and standing on the left side of home plate from the Pitchers point of view? I’m genuinely curious and good didn’t really help, does anyone know why we’re called left handed golfers? Shouldn’t we really be the Right handed golfers? :)

it's because most people who stand on the right side of the ball and/or the right side of home played predominantly use their left hand for everything else in sports/life. People that stand on the left side of the ball/plate generally use their right hand for everything else.

 

like everything else there are exceptions to this general rule, but this is why...

Thanks for the info. I’m one of those exceptions to the rule, Right handed but lefty at golf, batting, and hockey. I didn’t know that most lefties in stick/swing sports were actually left handed.

My son writes left handed but plays golf, cricket, tennis etc as a righty...go figure!

Mine too, he writes and throws left handed, but golfs, bats and plays hockey right handed lol.

bat left, throw right. I think it has to do with wrist break. Our brains are a bit scrambled when it comes to using both wrists. Anything involving swinging with one hand is righty (tennis, badmitten, racket ball), but put the two hands/wrists together and no go. I am left eye dominant too. A lot of lefties on my side of the family and also with my wife. I have 4 children, 3 are 100% lefty. None are redheads and all mine.

only if you are looking from the right side of a right handed player :( from the target side...the right hand dominant player is on the right side of the ball

I am left handed but anything with hitting, swinging, kicking or shooting I do right-handed.
