Dallas trip in March

I'm traveling to Dallas (Carrolton) for a couple days of golf next week. Last year we played Pecan Hollow and The Tribute. What is in good shape this time of year since I assume the bermuda has not greened up yet?

Texas Star in definitely in one day, but would like to add another course. I have not played Stevens Park but it seems to get good reviews for a muni. I would like to keep the cost under $100 and not more than a 45 minute drive.

This thread may help. Thing are pretty dormant right now. Maybe some other people can chime in about anywhere they've played this early that may be in decent condition.

Tierra Verde in Arlington. One of my favorites. Not expensive, no houses on the course. Always in great condition.

I’m a fan of Riverside in Grand Prairie off of 360. It is just 15-30 minutes from Carrollton.

Tierra Verde and Waterchase are solid options.

Also check out the bridges in Gunter, TX. It's a nice parkland links style course designed by Fred Couples that can play up to 7,612 yards if you tip it out. I think it's a real hidden gem.

OP, don't know what part of the week you'll be here, but the early forecast for the latter part of next week calls for some pretty good winds. And, believe me, you do not want to play The Bridges if it is windy. I would also guess it's still pretty dormant as well.

Thanks to all for the information. North Texas, I agree on the wind, that ruled out playing The Tribute as well! We ended up booking a round at Stevens Park on Thursday and Texas Star on Friday. Hopefully the weather holds up.

Played Steven Park on Thursday, good weather, it got a little windy by the end of the round. Nice facility, but I would probably not play it again when I am down in DFW. It is March, so the fairways are dormant, so some of it is just due to the time of the year regarding condition, but there are also some quirky holes on the course.

We played Texas Star on Friday, 86 an sunny but with some wind. Great day, and I love this course. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get a round of golf in the DFW area. The rate was $85. Due to the time of the year the course was not grown in yet, but it was still in very good condition for being dormant. The greens had a bit of poa anua throughout, but they rolled very good. The pro shop stated the poa anua there has built up a tolerance against their weed kill, but it burns off as soon as it get hot out. I would assume their greens would be excellent once the poa anua is burnt out. We also had lunch there, and the food was excellent. They have a ton of staff there, both inside the restaurant and out on the course, and all were very nice. You can tell they have good management there as the staff was very friendly and intent on making our time at the course and enjoyable day, well done!
