Hey everyone, I wanted to get everyone’s opinion here on which club one should look at to join in Calgary. Location wise the closest to my house/work are:

- pinebrook

- Silver springs

- Country hills

Would love to get your opinions on the above or any other course I’ve overlooked! Thanks!

thanks! that's what i'm thinking as well, but Country hills is the least convenient location of the three, but still not cottonwood area HAHA

I was able to play Pinebrook years ago while I was "test driving" at Carnmoney on a reciprocal. I recall it being a good layout, tight tree-lined and a good challenge

oh man! that's news to me, thanks for sharing. I know they had the mackenzie tour event on the talon 18 so i'm guessing that's their big priority anyways

Those are all pretty far apart distance wise. I would look at Glencoe if Pinebrook is close for you or even Earl Grey ( there's a waitlist right now but only 5 people I think). Talons course at Country Hills is the best of the courses listed but they have 850 full members for the 2 courses with a bunch of different associate member categories making it hard to get a last minute time. The ridge course is terrible and if you get drawn out of Talons in the lottery you're not going to be happy.

They had the developer come look at the top nine on the ridge and its unfeasible for them to use that land apparently so it should remain 36 for the time being.

Silver Springs has some terrible holes and the practice facilities are awful, no drivers on range and no proper short game area to practice on. They also took on a bunch of Bearspaw members so they may be close to full right now.

Pinebrook is a wedding venue not a golf club. They're struggling hard to keep members and are re doing the rest of their greens this fall. I worry it may go the way of Bearspaw if the board is not vigilant.

You should call everywhere and get some tours and introductions, play the courses and see if you'd fit in.

I was speaking to someone over the weekend about COuntry HIlls selling a top part as that is what I heard. Seems that idea is dead in the water now. They are trying to attract more people as are some of the other private courses.

The YYC market needs to crash as golf is far too expensive. I do not see it happening as a few courses are gonna go belly up...

Any interest in a 1:08pm at McKenzie Meadows? Weekday rates ($65).

EDIT: was going to delete this, but it will only let me edit. Something may be coming up on Sunday, so I can't commit til Saturday night. If you wanna play it by ear, toss me a PM and I can keep ya posted!

EDIT 2: I'll be golfing! Lemme know!

Shot 71 at heritage pointe last night. Unreal night to play golf. Barely anyone else out there. Played in 3 hours.

Highlight was holing out on desert #1 from 175 yards with an 8 iron for eagle! Promptly bogies the next 2 holes to give those shots right back...

What's happened, can you provide some details. Was there a couple of weeks ago (1st day #2 green in play) and the course was in great shape.

Yes Delacour is in bad shape. The greens are beat to crap on most holes, the grass is bad on countless fairways, they are letting eveything on the sides go again. I love this track but its gone to crap compared to years past. It was great at the start of the year and has slipped to a grade just above Silverwing (albeit I dont play there often but recall when I have). Those things along with the perhaps one of the worst paces of play ever... This year has been a funk year for so many courses, so I am gonna give the hall pass to them. I can see them putting countless specials out to increase revenue as well in a bad year (for sooo many courses) . I will still play it, but not as often. This course was always so mint but not right meow.

To add to what @specimania has said, the tee boxes have the equivalent of intermediate rough length grass.

That sucks, did they change greens keeper/maintenance? This also sends up a red flag that they could be having some financial troubles. I hope not as it has always been one of my favorite tracks.

They need to redo alot of the bunkers, most had standing water in the bottom and it was pretty hot yesterday. If that was from sprinklers, the greens keeper needs to be shot. It's a links course, let it bake out.

All tee boxes, (except the range which is fantastic), need rebuilding, with that much space and that many teeing grounds they can't be in that poor condition.

Several holes had significant areas of the fairway roped off as GUR.

Most if not all of the greens had large patches of dirt at the low points. Several had patches, either from the nursery green adjacent to #4 tee or hex plugs from the same green. I think they got killed by ice in the spring. Kinda like what happened to Darcy a few years ago.

Maybe they are sucking money out of the place, but that was brutal. It's not the Delacour I've loved. Go play Bearspaw or Winston. They are perfect right now.
