Cracked leather on Ecco world class golf shoes

Recommended Posts

Guys- we're talking about 10 year old shoes. Get over it and buy another pair. Footwear deteriorates over time, especially leather that is not cared for. Even if you left them in a box untouched for 10 years, the leather material breaks down. I'm glad issue was resolved and you got a new pair on ECCO. Cheers... you're right- we spend a ton on golf equipment and accessories..... but if you think $200-$250 is alot for a shoe that you've had for 10 years, you are in the wrong hobby/sport

Got it, next time a company goes out of their way to provide service I'll tell them I don't need their charity.

Its not about their customer service. no one in here is questioning that. Its about you calling them after 10 years and "attempting" to buy a new sole.... Did you really think they were going to sell you just a sole to a 10 year old shoe? Ive been in the footwear industry for a long time- it just doesn't work that way. Of course they are going to go our their way to make you happy. Ecco does not market themselves. They rely on customer service, so it does not surprise me that they replaced your shoes.

And there it is, the slight handed accusation of me doing something shady. I have been able to buy soles for older shoes before so that's why I called Ecco to to see if they offered them as well.

Get over yourself dude. Grow up

For someone who has been in the "biz" so long, Im surprised you are not familiar with people resoling shoes.

If you've been in the footwear industry for a long time, then you should know that Goodyear welted shoes can be recrafted. New soles, heels, etc. To ask if you can get replacement soles for a set of Goodyear welted shoes is not out of the ordinary. It should be expected.

If you are talking about Foot Locker type shoes, yeah. Those things are crap. And like many modern things, they are designed to wear out. Good shoes don't.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sent my shoes in and they said ECCO only has a one-year warranty and the shoes do not have Goretex so they are not guaranteed to be waterproof. I guess the person I spoke with on the phone was misinformed because that is not what she told me. I know the shoes are a couple years old but would have expected them to last longer and been waterproof when you buy shoes that have a $450 retail price. I used to get 3 years easily out of my Footjoy Classic Dry Premiers.

Ecco can't stay near the top like that.. Honestly, at some point material take the back seat in favor of designers, marketers,, you know business growers. I looked at the new hybrids,, the leather is thinner and seems less structured; the previous versions seemed more robust.

I will say, Cole Haan's quality is not what it used to be.. More offerings, hipper, etc,, but not more in the quality dept...

You can blame people like me for that. I don't want the same shoes for 10+ years. I'd rather pay less, get more fashionable shoes and when they wear out, I'll buy new ones.

These shoes were a little over 2 years old. The Ecco customer service lady that wanted me to send them in made it sound like they were going to stand behind their product and she said these shoes had a Goretex lining so they should be covered for 3 years. She said they would more than likely replace each pair with one or two shoes since they are not currently selling golf shoes that were as expensive. I would think a customer service person should under promise and over deliver. In this case they over promised and under delivered.

I recently picked up 7 pairs of the new Biom3, and notice that Yak leather will dry out quickly if I do not apply the leather cream. I have just picked them up this season. so not sure how they will hold up long term.

You have 7 pairs I think it would take quite a while for them to wear down lol. Unless you play 7 days a week :superman:

I should have cleaned them up before posting the pictures. That picture makes them look worse then they really are. I also sent back a pair of brown ones that didn't have any cracks in the leather. They were the same size as all my other shoes so I don't think they were too big. The fact that they have only a 1 year warranty on their top of the line shoes is pretty telling. If anyone knows any shoes comparable to the old Footjoy Classics please let me know. I was hoping these were going to be the new Classics but that is not the case.
