Volvik Vivid Soft review

Went to GT yesterday to buy a dozen TM Project A's. I've used this ball all year, and really like it. GT was acutally out of them in white, and only had them in HV. Sales staff said they've been out of them for about 2 months. I really find that odd, but that's another topic.

I took a guess at something comparable, and took the Volvik Vivid Softs. Crazy price of $55 a box as well. $11 more than Project A's, (Canada).

I've never heard anything good about Volvik, I can perpetuate that now. This is my first experience with a matte finish as well. Terrible idea IMO. Gets really, really dirty fast. The finish is just a magnet for dirt. This time of year doesn't help I guess.

Performance wise, absolutely nothing special. Did not feel soft. Felt sort of medium on the softness scale. I might even say it had a click to it. Can't comment on distance or spin since I teed off in very cool weather. I think I'm so critical of this ball because I can't believe I spent $55 for them. Anyone thinking of trying these, opt for a sleeve first.

Not familiar with the Volvik soft. But, have played the Callaway SuperHot and Wilson Duo matte balls. Agreed, they get dirty easily and not the best feel. I am not sure why all of the companies got on the matte band wagon. They're nothing special to me.

Not a Volvik fan, with the Vibe (discontinued??) being an exception. Great yellow color, good spinning urethane ball on the soft side. I bought a sleeve for the heck of it.But other Volviks I've tried were terribly overpriced and hard. And I don't understand the matte finish in any brand! They get filthy immediately and aren't easy to clean up.

My club gives out white project a's for their rental club balls. two sleeves for "free", $65 to rent an entire m4 lineup and a spider tour. Not bad! Anyways... I have been trying out the Volvik vivids my mother got me last year for Christmas, I commented on the matte finish and she bought 2 dozen mix-matched colors. Not sure how I feel about them, but might have to give the softs a try, I've been playing Bridgestone Tour BX's all year.

I had a sleeve in my bag and put them in play Friday, was pleasantly surprised how they played in the cooler temps. The lower compression seemed to help out driving distance and they felt really good off the putter. I put an order in for a few dozen on Amazon (cheapest price I could find) as I'll keep them in play as my cold weather ball.

Just a follow up. Have played a couple of rounds with the Vivid Soft, and have sort have got used to the feel. I recant my initial review on the feel, they are soft enough. I'll stand by my impressions on the matte concept. Absolutely ridiculous idea. I will never buy another matte golf ball. After these are gone, wouldn't take matte balls for free.

They do get dirty faster than glossy ones but they clean up okay.

I have no idea how Volvik stays in business. They make the worst balls ever.

I'm pretty sure their sales model revolves around that giant bucket at the checkout counter in most stores that sells single balls for $3.50 as novelties when people who don't golf come in and say "OOOH! COLORS!!!".

I can’t comment on their highest end balls but the Vibe, Vivid Soft and Vivid seemed to compare equally to other competitors balls in their categories for me. Overpriced maybe. But that’s the only knock I have with them.

  • 1 year later...

Found a Vivid Soft and was really taken by the finish and feel.

Almost feels sticky in the hand.

Ball does get a little dirty but cleans up well enough.

Feels soft when hit, and actually requires a bit more of a swing when putting.

I found a dozen on Amazon for 29.99, so not a horrible price.

As with most things in golf personal taste rules.

If you like a soft golf ball give it a shot.
