Just a solid bead blast after stripping. I've tried others with irons and always end up back at blasted. They'll rust perfectly from there.

So I talked to Doug Oughton Last night about the three sets of irons of mine that he has. When I first sent them he told me it would probably be about 10 to 12 days which would be right now. He said he doesn’t know what happened but all the sudden he is getting inundated with boxes of irons requested to be stripped raw. I laughed and told him I know exactly what happened this thread happened!

Ha Ha Ha you are 100% correct. He has had mine since April 24th....just to be stripped raw and I'm still waiting on them....this is exactly what happened......he told me the exact same thing, not to mention it was when most states couldn't play golf so everyone figured now is the best time, I can't play anyway.....

Mine arrived on the 24th as well, LOL. I emailed him last Monday and he said he is swamped. I was going to follow up today but it sounds like we are all in the same boat so I’ll just remain patient and let him work on our stuff.

Doug is awesome he’s done some irons for me in the past. There’s also a growing Instagram following for raw irons mostly fueled by Admirers national custom.

Just re-shafted these raw beauties this weekend. a little steel wool and oil and they look nearly new.

Party up front and chrome in the back. The crew at Continental Gold stripped the faces on my Redlines a few years ago. The patina is a deep rich rust.

Freshly stripped Cleveland Tour Action short set. Really looking forward to seeing these age in the early morning dew.

As you can clearly identify from the sets above I am quite fond of Boyd Blade ferrules.

I can swing either way, but I’m sure partial to the look and utilitarian function of a raw head.

Any reason you went with steel wool over maybe like a Scotch-Brite pad or something? I want to keep them cleaned up a bit but don’t want to remove what little bit of paint fill I did leave.

I had fine steel wool readily available and have used it previously with success. I have never removed paint-fill using fine steel wool, a little bit of oil and some elbow grease. I chose to remove almost all of the rust on my NCW’s, but you can leave as much of the patina as you wish.

not that I know of.....and he's putting the badge back in the 565. Can't wait to get them back and put the patina juice on them!

I’m interested to see how mine look. I intended on finishing them with a green pad to make it all look uniform in color but if that is straight from stripping I would be impressed.

Just got mine back and they look awesome. Wasn’t expecting to have some finishing and sandblasting done on the face for $17/head but I certainly appreciate it and was blown away.

Can’t wait to do some measurements and get these built back up. Just a couple of quick pics.

Yes, Doug is building mine back to specs. gonna post pics when I get them in hand, but they look awesome! I am certainly happy with the extra care he took with the finishing that's for sure!!

So does anyone know if pitting some Eezox or similar oil in them and keeping them dry as one can will keep them looking like they come back straight from being stripped?

Unlikely, given the amount of abuse that irons take compared to raw putters. I guess if you spent a lengthy amount of time with a scotch brite pad after every round they might, but I can’t imagine how that would be worth it. Why not just get a satin finish chrome? Seems to make far more sense from a maintenance standpoint.

After hitting a few raw irons they definitely feel/sound/come across whatever you want to call it, a little different. To me that “feeling” is better. I don’t really plan on doing that anyway I was just wondering since I have 3 different sets coming back raw I might try a few different looks
