X Torsion Cooper mamba: too good to be true?

PsychOuts

Recommended Posts

I just bought this shaft (adila XTorsion copper mamba 70 x) on a whim and I do no€™t €™know much about this shaft other than it is counter balanced, which I am experimenting with lol. At the price I got it now kinda concerned might be too good to be true. The seller seems to have a good rep with over 12,000 sales. Also, are there different versions of this shaft ie the Kuro Kage?

That sounds like a possibility. So I take it there is the higher end version and the oem one? Got it at a really good price so I knew something must be up, things you buy on the ‘bay.

Correct. I’ve never gotten around to seeing if there is a visible way to tell, I have the Ping version. Does it have a Ping tip? I know prices on them are dropping considerably but the fact it’s a 70x...

No, it comes untipped brand new and for less than a hundred I didn’t think it was too much risk. I do see it has made in Vietnam on the sticker. Wonder if the tour version is made in Japan or something.

Yea that’s a tough one. Uncut means there’s a chance it’s the real deal, most of the cheap ones will have Ping tips. At the same time someone may have gotten the leftover stock as the G410 is on sale.

I have seen these on Ebay for under $100 on more than one listing. One good seller had one priced at $60 (70 X) new uncut and it sat at that price a long time. It's a real shaft and I believe that it originally priced out at over $300 but don't think it got much play. Not much advertising, not much pro tour presence. There is also a Green version and that one seems harder to find. Just not quite sure who the market for this shaft was supposed to be and that was probably the problem.

All that being said I don't think there is anything wrong with it and would guess the quality is up there with any mid to upper price Aldila, which is to say excellent.

This, I have copper xtorsions now but when I was shopping around I saw plenty of the models you bought on eBay well below $100. They just were and still are not as hot as they would have liked in the market. I love mine.

Yeah picked it up for $60 for a 70 xflex. Though I really wanted the tx flex hard to pass on that type of deal especially when I keep reading reviews about how it compared to the pro orange v2 and can handle a little more aggressive transition. The shaft really hasn’t been out that long sad it didn’t get the marketing.

It really is, hell my NV in my driver i feel is a really under marketed shaft as well. These Xtorsions man, first shaft in a long time I can feel the head all the way through the swing. Almost like hitting a damn hybrid.

The 70x was a small upcharge in the G400 and not considered to be "real deal". Any chance you got one of those?

Ugh... these comments tick me off. PING DOES NOT sell watered down or shafts that "are not" the real deal. GUARANTEED that shaft is real, if it came from PING.

Yeah like others are saying the X version that is out on retail is not the same one that's talked about from guys like JT, I think code named "green mamba" and "black mamba", etc. Those I believe are TX versions and are a different animal.

I found the 60g version to have a rather soft handle and it was pretty difficult to time. Not overly stiff or smooth, had pretty uniform loading. It was like a worse version of the Evenflow Black.

The TX shafts are made for tour only, and have a different tip construction than the other flexes. Not sure if it's graphene tipped or what, but they are very very different shafts.

Toll Bros explains this well in one of his shaft comparison threads.

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1534088-official-aldila-black-green-copper-mamba-trackman-review-thread-comparison-to-tensei-pro-product/

"First off, let me give a quick comparison to Tensei Pro or Kuro Kage product for those of you who fit into this segment of shaft. This will at least give you some basis to compare what you may already know. Understand also that this is the Tour high modulous TX version of the Mamba line, so we are comparing to Tensei PRO product and Dual Core XT."

They are certainly real deal shafts, the same as you could get from Aldila, but there is a difference between the ones that were in the Ping (and other) drivers than those with the TX designation in the materials used. In the past some might call this watered down or whatever; I'm not sure I'd call it that as much the TX versions are more of a premium product. Kind of the same difference I guess, but in a different way, if that makes any sense.

Just FYI, the TX versions are the ones that are compared to the PO V2. Tollbros has a thread where he compares the standard shafts to the TX versions.

My swing speed is around 105-108with medium transition was kinda concerned about not being able to load a tx flex. I typically like a little heavier shaft in the 70ish gram range x flex. I wonder how much difference in feel from the x to tx. I did read the review from toll bros with helped especially the x and tx comparison so glad there are people like him putting good stuff out there

Very, very, very few people need or would benefit from the very expensive “tour only” TX Versions of these shafts.

This web site is an unusual place that has a much higher percentage of 110+ mph low index golfers than the “real world” but most golfers out there actually just need the “stock” stuff.

We swing around the same speed, I have an aggressive transition though. I have a 60tx and a 70tx and don't find them at all difficult to load, maybe because of my transition. Supposedly these are very sensitive to tipping, the 2 of mine that are driver length are both tipped 1/2 an inch and they feel great.

Just because you put it in caps lock doesn’t make it true.

It’s a real golf shaft.

It’s not the high end version sold by guys like People’s and Toll.

FWIW I'm in the 105-110 range and won a Green Mamba here and went with the 70x, which turns out to be a TX. Not too hard to load at all IMO, just about perfect. If I were more picky and not afraid of tinkering too much on something that's difficult/expensive to replace I'd even consider tipping it half an inch.

I like my green so much for my driver I bought one from TollBros for my 3wood. The green at TX flex loads easier and feels livelier than the HZRDUS Yellow or Black I had prior, both were in stiff flex.
