Anyone who hasn't said FL, doesn't live in FL. We have golf weather all year long. How does it get any better? And don't give me "scenery". We have coastline around 90% of our state.

We win :)
I agree. And for those griping about humidity, I'd rather have Florida's humidity where there's almost always a breeze, than the stifling, breeze-less humidity we often have here in NJ in the summers.
I'd agree if there weren't Palmetto bugs(American cockroach), snakes(pythons now), sand hill cranes, fire ants, killer bees, SINK holes, No-see-ums (pronounced "sure-feel-ums")fleas, spiders, alligators, funeral processions(making you late for your tee time), bermuda grass (if the sun hasn't burnt all the grass up by the time you tee it up), playing behind a foursome of 80 yo's, etc. Although, right about now, I wish I were in Florida playing some golf, as it was -11* below zero here this morning. :(

MI would charge jacked up rates for out of staters if only MI was a year round destination for tourists like AZ, FL and CA. It's called supply and demand.

I don't agree. The rates are high in Florida and Arizona when in the winter when the weather is perfect and their demand is high. In the summer when the temps are in the triple digits, therefore the demand being low, plenty of people come up to places like Michigan where the temps are great (high 70s to low 80s) to play golf. That is when our demand is high. The thing is we don't price gouge when our area is the one in high demand.

Michigan would win hands down if it weren't for the short season. Arcadia, Tullymore, Forest Dunes, Treetops, True North, etc can all be played for $100 or less. All these other state's great courses are either private or $200+ per round. Michigan is All about public golf and we don't charge out-of-staters jacked up rates like A-holes in AZ, FL and CA.
Thats actually not true. Rates are jacked for local and out-of-staters alike. I dont like it either, and they are A-holes. But locals dont catch a break. (At least in AZ)

My personal experience with this has only been in FL, but man does AZ have ridiculous winter rates regardless of where you're from. I think I get spoiled on great golf at cheap rates in Michigan, because the sticker shock in the 'sunshine states' is unbelievable. I think the moral here is that awesome golf at cheap prices in a place with great year-round weather probably doesn't exist or we would all live there.

NC where I live is very nice.

I have always been curious about golf in Alabama

It depends on so many things Golf and the courses in Wisconsin were beautiful the three days a year the weather was nice enough to play them :good:

Yep Sconnie is great, fall golf is amazing! Except that you lose your ball in the fairway because every leaf looks like it might be it.

I have the best of both worlds where I live I think. I live 8 miles south of "Dirty Myrtle" and have at least 6 courses within a 5 mile radius of me. I can drive south to Pawley's Island and have 6 or 8 great courses too. I can drive thanks to the new bypass in 45 minutes or so and have a lot of great courses on the north end including the newer ones in Brunswick County NC just over the line. Pinehurst is about 1 1/2 hrs away and Charlotte (where I was born and raised) is about 3 hrs away. But truthfully when you live here a while you tend to play courses close to you and stay on your end of the beach so to speak. I almost forgot all the courses on the south end of the state are only a couple hrs from me (Hilton Head etc) and Sea Island GA is only maybe 2 1/2 depending on the traffic. Far as variety I think I have it made even though lately the weather has been bad for this area.
IN the past they were jacking rates for out of towners in our area but were loosing play especially "snowbird" play to Florida and Alabama. This year has been extremely competitive because of cheaper gas prices. We don't have nearly the Canadians down here as in the past. I talked to a couple of guys yesterday from NY State at my home club and they said that a lot of their friends had went to Alabama or Florida this year because gas was cheaper. However we do get local rates that are reasonable because we have so many golfing full time residents now. And the course management folks have learned that locals support their courses year round not just a week or 2 a year.

5 pages and only 3 votes for Hawaii? Haha, I find this topic bias by reading some of the posts. I have traveled quite a bit and I'm shocked that Oregon doesn't get much love. During golf season they have some amazing courses. Desert golf is cool during the winter but it gets played out.

Everyone votes based on their own input factors and what's most important to them.

I based my decision on having a great private club membership experience and being able to golf year round.

I love visiting Maui, as I tend to stay about 6-8 weeks a year, but would not want to live there year round due to being land locked from the mainland (and lack of private club variety). I like a larger city with sports, concerts, dining, and nightlife. Being able to grab a short flight to Vegas, SoCal, San Fran, Carmel, etc. many times a year without it being a 7 hr flight.

I visit Bandon Dunes twice a year since they've opened. I love Oregon golf but would never live there. The drizzle and cold winters are not what would qualify as best state for golf as my preference. Pronghorn is a nice club but it is a summer only place.

I can't stand any amount of humidity....walking outside from the house to your car in the parking lot is like walking into the steam-room, fully clothed. Hence, my lack of excitement to travel or golf east of the rockies in the summer.

SoCal by far! Shout out to my home state Georgia and Alabama (very underrated outside of the RTJ courses).

I haven't golfed much outside of my home state (WI). We have some pretty good courses here. I don't know which state has the best golf courses or year round conditions, but I do know Minnesota has the most golfers per capita. And oddly enough North Dakota has the most golf courses per captia, which isn't really saying much.
