i have checked on their website and there are available tee times midweek in oct but it seems that there is a hotel stay requirement to book one of these times

i was wondering if there are at least a couple of no shows that would allow a single to get on without having to stay at the hotel

i will be in the area and if not pebble what other courses besides pasatiempo should i consider as a second option?

Call ahead to the pro shop and simply ask, that is what I did when I was in the area. I went over early in the morning of my round and put my name on a list for both Pebble and Spyglass, took the first time oddered at Spyglass and enjoyed the day.

Have to admit I thought the course was one of the most over rated places i have ever played, not in very good shape. But I am glad I did it none the less.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I'm not doubting anyone who's actually played there, or experienced playing at such a high-profile course, but...

WHO THE HELL IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BE A NO-SHOW @ PEBBLE?

I find it hard to believe that it ever happens.

Again, I'm not doubting anyone, I just can't believe that someone would reserve a once or twice in a lifetime tee-time and just sleep in or miss it...

I've played at Pebble and Spyglass by showing up as a single and getting on within an hour or so. There are more than a few 3 somes and occassionally a twosome in midweek. Pasatiempo is great as is the previously mentioned Bayonet.

The course at Spanish Bay is not good but if you can, go to the patio near the restaurants and grab a seat. Get a bottle of wine and listen to the bagpiper put the course to rest. He'll complete his work by walking up towards folks on the patio as the sun sets at his back. If you don't start wondering about life at that moment, check your pulse.

I know right. but yes there were no shows the day I played. Also, the price for pebble right now is I believe $475 like baller said.

No shows are not that unusual. There are a lot of corporate outings and if someone gets caught up in a more important meeting, then the golf can wait. It's not like someone personally is paying for it.

It's rare these days if you can't get on as a single. It's not like their are lines camping out like Bethpage or Torrey. And you can check the pb website for the latest fees. It is $475 for Pebble and if you are not a resort guest, cart is extra. Caddies are $50/bag + tip and you need to call in advance to arrange a caddie as well as have two people so they can carry two bags, or you can pay one caddie $100 to carry only your own bag.

Fees go up at Pebble every year on April 1. Usually the Pebble green fee goes up $25 per year.

I got on as a single in November 2005. Get there are sunrise or slightly after and check with the starter. Tell him you are a single. He'll put your name on the waiting list, then you can go to the driving range just up the street, or putt or get some breakfast in the cafe upstairs. There are also some neat shops right by the first tee, but they don't open until a bit later in the day.

Unfortunately I had to wait until just after 1 p.m. to get out because there was a HUGE corporate outing with a bunch of hacks in tennis shoes rolling their tee shots off #1. Talk about painful!!! A bunch of middle aged men and women who couldn't hit the ball out of their shadow, and their company is dropping serious coin PLUS the cost of rental clubs. OUCH!!

There's also a par 3 course just up the street. Give the starter your cell phone number, then go do your thing. The starter called me about 30 minutes prior to my time, and I was at the par 3 course.

Enjoy it!

Here's one piece of advice: If you are a better player, pay the extra cash and take your own caddy if they allow it. They double loop, and my caddy was busy all day chasing down the other guy's horrible shots. I got very little help from my caddy, and many times I had to chase down my clubs and utilize the other caddy for cleaning my ball and reading the greens (which are very tricky BTW). Or, here's what we did at Spanish Bay. We put our clubs on a cart and let the caddy drive the cart while we walked. My buddy and I enjoyed the round so much more, and the caddy was able to zip across the fairway in the cart to give us clubs, yardages, etc. It was much more efficient and fun this way.
