My father played this course and said it was amazing, but can be very tough in the wind.

We were just there in late March and played 36 holes on a very cold and windy day. The design of the course is pure art. The condition of the course, even at the time of year, was superb. I don't like taking carts, but it is a necessity at GCOK. If there was ever a reason to move to Kansas City, it would be The Golf Club of Kansas.

I've played it and it is a nice track, some very interesting holes. Do they have a clubhouse yet, last time I was there the "clubhouse" was a metal shed.

From my understanding the course was supposed to open as a private club, but the opening coincided with the economic downturn in 2008. It is open to the public but it is a little pricey compared to other area courses, but not extremely so, I think a round cost around $75 with cart if I remember right. Anyway it is built in and around an old rock quarry, lots of interesting holes, elevation changes, tons of Kansas wind and great conditions. If you are ever in the KC area it is worth checking out, certainly not your average ordinary course.

how does it compare to shoal creek and stone canyon??

I've been considering joining the Golf Club of Kansas since it reciprocates with Staley Farms (I live in the Northland). Has anyone tried to walk the course? I've never played the course and I saw a post above that indicated a cart was a necessity but I prefer to walk and get some exercise. I've heard there are some pretty good elevation changes so I was wondering if it just wears you out when trying to walk.

it's basically unwalkable.

I just joined here. Very tough course. I was a member at prairie highlands last year and walked every round, and those holes are very well spread out. This course is pretty much Un-walkable. You can, but it might be for a long round.
