I recall seeing a pond adjacent to a green with a bunker between. The bunker had the appearance of a beach and the sand flowed into the water. Red stakes and lines in/on the sand. Seemed like an architectural stunt to me.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

Now that you mention it there is one par 3 that I've played a few times that has a "beach" inside the hazard. The pond/green border has wooden pylons running the length in front of the green, and there's a sandy area inside the PA. I wouldn't call it a bunker, though, as it's entirely within the PA.

Im picturing 17 at TPC with its little bunker if the bunker jutted out into the water a bit more. (So 17 at Bartley Cavinaugh)

Suppose the boundary was marked with stakes and the stake at the tip of the bunker was missing, so the apparent line between adjacent stakes went through the bunker.

I personally would say the boundary of the water hazard would be it’s physical boundary and the bunker gets to be it’s own self, but agai

Nor have I, though I believe the USGA had a picture of a bunker with a red painted line in it that was used to show the answer to whether the ball touching both areas was deemed to be in the penalty area.

This was very close. The edge of the bunker closest to the water is a very very shallow lip..then rocks..then water. There were 2 red stakes, one well in front of the bunker and one closer to the backside of the green (and none near the bunker itself), but no red lines. If no markers existed, then its a little more straight forward. In my case, most of the bunker was actually inside the PA since the 2 stakes where there. Tee boxes would be in the lower left corner

Now you mention it, I also recall seeing a photo of such a set up not too long ago - with a red line dividing the pond side beach into a PA part and a bunker part, the bunker looking decidedly normal everywhere else.

Seems like a very poor job of marking the PA. It would seem rather straightforward to spray a red line near the rocky border of the bunker. It would be different if the bunker was a continuous flow of sand into the water.
