COBRA L4V - The BOMB!!!!

you'll prolly never use it, i have the FS2 as my backup and I hardly hit it now. However, I don't mind getting a X head and stick a pype 70 in there at 44" but I don't have the cash for that at the moment.

I LOVE the PM702 in this club. My SS is about 120 give or take. I'm playing the X tipped .5" and it has made a world of difference over the redboard that I played with for a few rounds while waiting for the PM to arrive. The stock shaft was a little high on the launch for my taste and really ballooned on me. The 702 lowered the launch to an optimal level and flattened the flight out perfectly. I'm having a blast playing golf with this club.

Another option is to buy a PM702 off of ebay which is what I did. It was $79 shipped and I remember there being a few shafts left.

Have you hit a diamana before? Can you compare the feel of the diamana to the PM702?

Which Diamana are you referring to?

I have tried the Blue and the White, and I feel like the White is more comparable to the 702. The Blue will launch a little higher and spin a little more than the 702. The White, for me, launched about the same, spun a little bit less, and felt much, much smoother. I find the 702 to be a bit boardy. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just a difference in feel for me. I play the Pype in mine, and I personally feel like even that shaft feels less boardy than the 702. I would say the Diamana Blue is smoother than the White, and the White is smoother feeling than the 702. Hope that helps!

I'd say that this is spot-on. I was a hockey player long before I picked up golf, so I like boardy.

Today was the first time I've been able to get out on the course with my new L4Vx. I've got it shafted with a Whiteboard 65X with Taylor Made graphics (now there's a combo for ya!). Length is at 44.5, total club weight is at 332g, with a swingweight of D3.4. I was a bit concerned that the a Whiteboard xstiff would too much for my 110mph swing speed to handle (probably more like 105 since it's early). No worries, launch was mid-high. Difficult to judge spin at this point. I'll have to wait until my course opens (was playing a cow pasture today).

Played it side by side with my SuperQuad (non TP). On center hits they were dead even. Have to wait and see what happens when i can actually get some roll. Can most definitely see the difference in face angle, was hitting the Superquad straight and the L4V with a slight fade. Where the L4V exceled for me was on off center hits. On one hole I missed both drivers about 3/4 inch towards the heel, the L4V was 12 yards ahead of the SuperQuad. On another I sent my first shot off to the right with the L4V (going to take some getting used to an open face). I figured it would be way short. Hit one more good shot each with the L4V and SuperQuad. Much to my surprise the shot off to the right was only about five yards shorter that the two good shots.

Once I have a little more time to hit it I'll report back.

Oh yeah, one other thing. It is freak'n LOUD!! Not distracting for me, but next to the Superquad you could really tell the difference.

i personally am tired of reading post #1414155 about how far this driver is. now i want to know if theres a way to mute it.

Sure.

Don't hit it.

If everyone is going to base the sound of a driver just at the range or in the enclosed rooms of GolfSmith or RD, don't bother. However, in play, on the tee box, it does not sound loud. Also, I think robo has a great point some posts back about the different shafts and the effects of the sound - but I can't recall my pype sounding bad...could be that I got used to it but oh heck. I played Angeles National, CA yesterday and that is one mean course if you don't drive straight and even my pro said I carry the ball one hell of a way, easily out driving his lower Superquad ball with roll: straight and plenty of carry over the waste, just what the doctor ordered. By the way, he looked at my head with the pype and we put it side by side with his superquad, his SQ just looked like a oversized fairway wood, lol.

Moral of the story, take the sound issue with a grain of salt cause the open tees it is pretty good and not ringing as versus some range with the fencing that will amplify the sound. I rather have the L4V sound than the muted sound of my Cherry Bomb FS2.

Can't please everyone on the forum.

It's loud no matter where you hit it...

i just got an Xcon6 installed in my L4VF 9*. the trajectory is about the same as the stock diamana, but with less spin, thus more distance. the dispersion is tight as well. a big improvement over stock. less tendency to snap hook it. but it's not magic by any means, still gotta make a good swing. i love it so far. only had a brief range session and 9 holes of play.

Thanks for the info. High launch low spin is exactly what I am looking for, and since I play on really firm fairways the roll out should be good as well!!! I can't wait....

Well I finally went out today at lunch and purchased L4V X.

I going to try with stock shaft first and see how it does but will most likely reshaft.

Most likely looking at protopype or possibly the epic. My swing speed is 105-110 depending on the

day so I will probably go with X-Stiff shaft based on what I have read here.

If this can kick my 454 Comp NT X-Stiff combo out of the bag I will definitely be pleased which is

long but sometimes I fight a hook with it.

I will post back results once I can get on the course and compare side by side with the 454.

You will hit it high with the stock shaft. However, if you play with the tee height you should be able to keep it a little down.

I just some iX balls for my bday on Tuesday so I am keen to try it. Good to hear it works well with the head so I'll look forward to it next week. I usually use the TM LDP reds and that is a very nice combo as well, especially in the wind.

I went to a Cobra demo day yesterday to try out the LV4 X and F

The F was a bit too shut for my liking, so that went back in the rack pretty quick, so onto the X.... Unfortunately they only had 'stock' shafts available (cobra redboard 67g) and I felt the whole club felt light and even with the 9 degree I hit it very high. They had the older X speed pro with the stock Fuji and that had a better feel and flight, but lacked the explosion of the L4Vx.

I'm a big Grafalloy Blue fan, but think there might be a better shaft for this driver head with similar characteristics to the Blue.

Any shaft/head combo suggestions I could look at ?

Side note, I also tried out the Pro CB irons..... NICE ! small heads, but buttery feel off the face, very impressive.

I've done several with the XCon 6, three with the Altus LT, one with Code 6 and one with F6M2. I've also played the stock stiff which for me was long and smooth but almost impossible to keep from hooking.

The biggest question with all of these Oziks is how stout you like the feel to be. Of that group, F6M2 was stoutest and lowest launch, and hardest to turn over. Very smooth though, and truly ridiculous into the wind. XCon 6 was also quite stout in feel - excellent for aggressive downswings, with higher launch than the F6 and no leftward tendency at all. It's not as smooth as the F6. Altus LT is probably my favorite - just enormous carry, with very smooth feel - easy to work both ways. Too high for the high-launch player, builds to D2 at 44.5" due to the 78 gm weight and no counterbalancing. Code 6 is the sleeper in the group - almost as smooth as the Altus but more spin, which with this head isn't neccessarily bad - it's a very low-spin head...

I bet I'd love the Code 7 in this too, but don't have one in my demo fleet.

If you put about about as much cotton as you'd find on the end of a Q-Tip into the hosel before inserting the shaft, it takes some of the metallic nature out of the sound. Still pretty loud, of course...

I am looking at the Epic and the prolaunch platinum.

I checked with grafalloy to see what of the new shafts would compare to the comp nt as I have had good success with

this shaft. They recommended the prolaunch plat. but after reading the specs which says it is high launch I am a little hesitant.

Have hit the stock shaft and it is ok nothing consistent at all. I have been trying to get the happy medium of putting a good swing on it and releasing my hands without

really going after it. So far I have not been overly impressed but I am ready to give it a chance with another shaft based on what I have read on this forum.

For me I am not launching too high as I have read a lot of other speak of on here. I tend not to launch the ball really high anyway. I did hit a couple drives even with stock shaft that were

pretty good when I got a good release through the ball. For me even with the stock shaft the club does not hook unless you put a bad swing on it. Yesterday I finished off my session with a good swing

that was good height with a little draw. Did not balloon and had a similar trajectory as my 454 10* and I believe as long or longer although hard to tell. I guess thats the one that brings you back for more.

Anyway will post back more results as I get them.

I'm not certain where you saw the specs as high launch for the platnium, but Grafalloy's site list ball flight as mid-low and then again somewhere in the specs it states mid flight to fit between the prolaunch red and prolaunch blue shafts. I really wanted to give the platnium a try, but due to some time restrants I ended up with the red. Only a few rounds with it so far, but it definitely launches it much lower than the stock shaft.

I was bored today so I visited our local golf retailers (the pro shop at my home course doesn't have much stuff in yet, what they do have is Nike) to check things out. I wasn't surprised that Dick's didn't have any L4Vs (they had a lot of last year's Speeds). The local chain had one, an F/9.0. No Xs. Boo.

Big demo day at the local chain in about 2 weeks. They better bring some stuff ... I'm getting thirsty! :russian_roulette:

Hit the L4V X today, and boy was that baby a cannon! My launch numbers weren't ideal (too much spin/too high launch) but I attribute that mostly to the stock Stiff redboard diamana shaft (I think thats what was in it). I hated the sound, its awful but the potential distance this driver offers certainly will mask that. I think a different shaft would help me tons.

it does. as much as i hate to throw more money into a new shaft for a new driver, i am sure with the general concensus of the l4V community here, is that - it's a must to get the most out of this totally awesome head.

In thinking back from my time at Angeles National GC, this driver has definitely thrown my numbers into the 290+ when I was only doing 270+ on my old drivers.

The thing that has helped me with the bigger drivers is taking the club back closed. you will naturally open it a little at the top, but it will come back into the ball more square. if i use my normal takeaway with these drivers i never can square it up and i end up way right.

I have/had one with an Ozik Code 8. The ballflight is perfect but it just goes too straight. I cannot turn it over at all so I am back to something smaller. (that I actually hit a little longer when it turns over) One of my friends commandered it after using it for a round and blowing it by his Exotics Tour Proto all day.

will all shafts play softer in this head?

i am debating whether or not to get a protopype 60s or an x....

i have never gamed an x-stiff shaft before...

but swing speed is consistently in low to mid 100s

Weigh the head first and then decide. Your SS puts you into the stiff. Seems these heads vary a bit as far as how much they weigh. If you have a really heavy one, it might make the shaft play a little softer. I think mine was around 208 grams, which is a pretty hefty head. I've heard of some coming in as light as 203 grams and some up around 210 grams.
