Trip To Maryland in early Nov.

I am going to be out in Maryland Nov 11-14 for a conference and we want to try and get out and play a few rounds. I wasnt sure how the weather is out there that time of year. Also, we dont know anyone in the area who can give course recommendations. Any ideas of where to play? The conference is at the Gaylord National Resort and we would like to stay relatively close by if possible.

Weather might be in the 60s, might be freezing. It's shoulder season, so you get a ton of variance. Might be able to play every day, might not be able to play any. Lake Presidential is 30 minutes from National Harbor, really good course.

Johnny is right on with that call. You should be able to play, but there's always a chance it'll be pretty cold. Lake Presidential is a good option, Renditions is another but that's a little further out. Laurel Hill would be doable from National Harbor as long as you don't get caught in a ton of traffic, and that's the best public designed course in the area. Definitely take traffic into account because it gets nasty on 495.

I've played golf in a light pullover on Thanksgiving and I've shoveled snow on November 11. So, it could go either way. I will second the good advice above. I've never played Lake Presidential, but always hear good things about it. I really enjoyed Renditions. Although it may not be the best all around golf course, it was a memorable experience. Now, when I watch the masters, I think about how I played Amen Corner.

Weather will be hit or miss. It could be 65 or 35. Lake Pres is a good track and tough depending on what tee's you play.

The weather predictions provided above are spot on...no one knows that far out. For the golf, I am also going to suggest Oak Creek (located between Lake Presidential (lots of construction around the course right now) and Renditions) is another good option on the MD side but Potomac Shores would be my #1 suggestion. Course is immaculate, both the conditions and layout. If you do go there, however, you need to do it during the middle of the day as traffic in DC gets no worse then northern VA during rush hour.

I played Lake Presidential back in July and it was not in the best shape. Greens were in terrible condition. Not sure if there's been improvement since then, but I'd be cautious.

I second Oak Creek. It’s always in better condition than Lake Presidential or Renditions and is a great layout. Hopefully they don’t ruin it as they have been adding houses.

And it’s only gotten worse. Such a shame after all the money they spent fixing it and the effort last year to keep it in good shape.
