Shot Scope V3

Digging through info on their site I found the answer to my own question. Unless one designates their 2nd shot on a par 5 as a "position" shot it is included in your approach stats (it would be a missed approach) even if you were laying up. Anything outside 50 yards is considered an approach shot. By marking the shot as a "position" shot it is not included in one's approach stats nor is the distance counted toward your club performance. I guess that makes sense because a layup with any club on a par 5 would go farther than usual and skew that clubs distances. On the other hand, I seldom use a 3w or 5w off the tee and rarely am left with an approach that requires either of those clubs so I don't know when/how they are going to have stats accumulated for them. Anxious for the V3 to be available.

Exactly the same problem with additional shots recorded Mych, my V3 is registering practice swings as shots. Played 4 rounds with it now and after each round have had to remove an additional 5-8 extra shots each time. Also had a few shots where I’ve used a driver off the tee and it’s registered the club used as an 8i!? 

I never had either of these issues with the v2. Wonder if the sensors are extremely sensitive?

Not yet, I just played the first 9 with it yesterday. I was planning to give it a couple of rounds to figure out if there's a part of my routine that I need to adjust.

For instance, when I started with the v2 I used to repair ball marks on the green and tap them down with my putter in my left (watch) hand. I had to change that habit because it would pick them up as putts. I was hoping I could find something to help the v3 be as accurate picking up "shots" as the v2 has been.

Left hand golfer wearing it on right hand and having issues with it reading practice swings and other actions as real swings. I just upgraded the firmware so will try it out tomorrow to see if anything is fixed.

any word on what the retail price on the v3 will be? I am between an Apple Watch and Garmin S40 or S62 right now, but the Shot Scope seems like another great option.

I haven't seen that info but I believe the V2 MSRP was $249 if that helps.

I saw elsewhere that someone having a problem with practice swings and extra shots being recorded had changed his GPS setting from the Default L1 to the L1 + L5 setting. Have any of you done that as well? Wondering if there is a common thread to the issue.

I did change from L1 to L1 + L5 because of time it was taking to locate a course when playing (often 5-10 mins). Will try switching back to L1 only. Thanks Phil. I have emailed shot scope so will let you know what comes back from them also.

My GPS setting is L1+L5 also. Not sure why a GPS setting would affect sensitivity but I'll try switching back to L1.

I have had a response from shot scope who have said it has been identified as an issue this weekend and technical team looking into it. Fair play to their support team, always prompt at replying and looking into things.

I had problems with the V3 registering the wrong club as well. Premiere this sunday.

 

I had a couple of drives registered as 3w, one as a wedge (nice 315 meters 56*. Too bad the actual drive was hooked about 200 meters), and one as a 4i. One 3w was also registered as Driver. And I think it picked up a couple of practice swings as well. All in all a round that's unsalvageable. Just too much stuff to edit.

I also turned on L1+L5. I'll turn it off before next round unless there's a new firmware, or an update from Shot Scope. I never had these problems with the V2, other than it randomly adding a hybrid shot between a driver and a wedge.

Second round with the v3 today, with GPS set back to just L1. Same issues, but now it even put me on the wrong tee a couple of times. Some holes correct, some completely wrong with seemingly a random selection of clubs shown as tee clubs.

 

i also played a second round today, but don’t know how that went since the battery ran out at hole 17.

So far really disappointed with the v3.

One example (I’m not fiddling with my clubs on the tee box). In reality, I hit spoon into the water, took a drop, hit spoon again, then Pw, and two putted. I think I missed registering the drop, but still...

Wow, I didn't have any quite that bad. I'm kinda interested how different the v2 and v3 are. I wonder what would happen if I wore both watches and compared the results.

Finally got mine (3 weeks from payment) and the first thing I'm attempting to do is update the firmware. Its been doing so for 20 minutes now. Should it take this long?

Maybe, but the V2 has had no issues. It’s a facility in Sweden called Bro Hof, with two courses. Stadium and Castle.

I think everything boils down to shot detection, and the V3, currently, being worse at it than the V2.

 

edit: from the FAQ i gather that the watch defaults to driver if it hasn’t detected a tee shot. But it put me way back to the championship tees, instead of the regular ones. So that might be a mapping issue.

Course is 8000 yards from the tips, so not something you play every time D:

loving the v2 and thinking about ordering the V3 little scared about this picking up practice swings

I had been an AVID V2 watch user for many, many rounds and was such a die hard proponent of it. So when I saw the chance to "upgrade" to this V3 I absolutely jumped on it, and i thus far am so incredibly disappointed/disheartened/sad. The watch misses a TREMENDOUS amount of swings. Thus far i've played 3 rounds with it, and it's missed approximately 10 FULL SWING Strokes in each!!! This last round I played yesterday I even made sure that even if it was a short chip shot that i did a full practice swing just to remove any excuses. But to no avail. I don't even have the desire to go in and fix all the messed up holes because there's so many of them. So basically, I've upgraded and now losing my stats completely. Just super bummed. I have a support ticket into them, but not feeling great about chances.

After reading this thread, I might try to adjust the GPS settings to L1 + L5.....out of desperation. One more round Sunday, but if it's more of the same I think i'll just return the bloody thing and buy another V2. CRAZY this can happen.

I played with the v3 yesterday and I'm scared to even sync it up to review the round. If it's as rough as my first v3 round, I'll be pulling the v2 back out until there's some indication of software changes to fix the v3.

I've played a bunch of rounds so far and I've never had it miss 10 shots in a round. I'd definitely be contacting their support as this isn't normal in my experience.

We will get to your email on support. Just to make you and everyone aware, there is a % of users who are having worse shot tracking than V2, we have a couple of firmware updates and also some processing updates coming in the next week to 10 days which should bring the system on a lot.

Please send everything into our support team, we can check everything and improve whether it is course mapping or shot tracking.

Appreciate the response, and yeah I've been working with Andy on Support and he's been great, which is as usual. I'm not giving up, I have too many years of preaching to everyone how amazing my V2 watch was to just give up. Do you think changing GPS to L1+L5 will improve things, or will it need to be a firmware thing? I have a round tomorrow so will report back, fingers crossed.

In the meantime, i think you have to change your nickname now to Shotscope V3, right????

My V3 is supposed to finally arrive on July 8th. Been waiting a long time since purchasing first week of February. I sure hope they get the kinks worked out so i don't have to get rid of this one.

There was the issue with too many shots being recorded with a common denominator being the change from L1 to L1 + L5 in the GPS setting. Is there a common denominator in lots of shots being missed? Does the wrist band do the sensing and if so is the problem related to one color? Left handed golfer vs right handed? Any other setting changed from default?

Also, here in the U.S., where are these shipping from?
