A player’s age division is determined by their age on May 1st. For Example, if a player turns 14 in July of 2021, they will compete in the 13 & Under Division throughout the entirety of the Series even though they may be 14 during a Local or Regional Qualifier. If a player turns 14 before May 1st of 2021, then the player will compete in the 14-18 Division throughout the entirety of the Series. If your birthdate falls on May 1st and turn 14, you will play in the 14-18 division.

Same exact thing happens at the DCP.

Yes, I know this.

Honor system lol.  Some of the most dishonest people I have ever met are parents of junior golfers. In a local/regional event kids may know each other but in a national field that will not be the case. Why does the AJGA ask for birth certificates if it is no big deal?  If you have nothing to hide there shouldn't be a problem.

Again, how do you know they are not taking away the spot of an alternate who actually played in a qualifying event? In particular, this tournament had a pretty big "prize" at the end that exempt kids got to experience without doing anything to deserve it.  Like I said it is about transparency. I don't give a crap if there are exemptions just be transparent about it. Every good tournament makes clear the criteria for entry.

Glad your kid did will and had a good experience.

Because the AJGA has a huge international presence.  Notah does not.

All the kids know each other, a couple of phone calls and it would be taken care of.  I can tell you that people from WRX have actually called Notah to ask them about things.  They are transparent and will tell you exactly what they are doing.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Not seeing the connection of int'l vs. nat'l still dealing with age groups.

Listen this isn't my first rodeo.  My son has been playing tournament golf for a while and for the last couple of years at a high level.  Not all the "kids know each other".  We may see familiar faces and if paired with a kid a couple of times may become better acquainted. Also, I have seen grad years jump around on JGS quite often.

Anyway, glad to hear that if questioned they will be transparent because I just may give them a call lol.

I think in general more golf tours need to ask for Birth Certificates.  The problem is other then AJGA and few other national events that vast majority do not ask for them. AJGA most likely ask because it has been an issue in the past they had to deal with.  They never ask to see the original so faking a birth certificate is very easy and I am  sure goes on with AJGA.

JGS rankings is pretty much useless and self reporting so not very reliable in a lot ways. It a good easy place to see how other players play but really doesn't reflect much accurate rankings.  Some the kids are ranked very low and never play a national tournament that should tell you a lot. National tournaments matter because you will be paired with people you do not know and a lot eyes might be on the kids. All good things and makes it easy to believe the scores.

Something I figured out with my kids. Over the years I am sure we played with kids who way older then mine but said they were younger.  The ones that come to my mind were pretty obvious and most of them 1 day tournaments.  It didn't do them any good.  5 or 6 years later I don't see any of the kids playing golf.

In Golf you age up if you want to get better. Like I said an 18 year old can go pro and beat other pro's so if a adult wants to play kids who cares they are losers already.
