Putting alignment issue: Always end up aiming left

Here is what I learned about my personal experiences and what might work for you

I am severely left eye dominant. (you need to learn which eye applies to yourself)

For me, a narrow left foot back and open stance - with a right hand push - and the ball well forward works THE BEST.

I also know flow neck putters are best for me

So I suggest getting one of those clip on putter lasers and try different

HEAD shapes (anser, mallet, etc)alignment aid styles … none, dot, line, multiple lines etcNECK styles (center shafted, plumber's neck, flow neck etc) to see what gets you aimed straight (Slazenger used to have this system in Myrtle Beach IIRC)Diff sized gripsDiff grip styles (the pencil or claw was my salvation as well)Head weight. For me I like heavy. My Scotty x7m, Ping Sigma2 Tyne 4 and Piretti Matera Elite are all very heavy. I think weight is a stroke factor as well … YMMVNow I got lucky in the last few years where a local guy named Liam Mucklow clarified why my system/preferences works for me and my eye issue, and then also having Scotty Cameron himself watch me hit putts and tell me what style of neck and head shape works for my strong arc old school stroke. So I got that going for me

I also got a HIGH TECH putter fitting at TaylorMade head office here in Canada last Fall. Flow neck mallet with face opened, loft strengthened, heavy weights dropped in, lie flattened …. and I COULD NOT MISS FROM 12 feet

GOOD LUCK

Just ran into this thread. You decided to make golf more difficult I take it? TM fit you for the perfect putter...a heavy mallet.... and now you use this? 🤭

Boy, bring up any topic about golf and get a million opinions from those that have no idea what they are talking about. This subject is no different.  If you align the putter left or right of the intended target line, the reason is almost always your setup. If you want proof get a laser on your putter face and try this.  Take your normal setup with your putter (where you are aimed left) and just move the ball back in your stance and watch the laser move to the right. If you aim right just move the ball forward and the laser swings left.  Most things in golf can be fixed with proper setup. Whether that be ball position or body position, grip, stance, head position, etc. Aim and alignment are always connected. We could all learn to play better if we just stick to the facts, instead of passing on opinions or garbage that we heard from are buddies who know less than we do, but talk like they're an expert. TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE THE RESULTS, EVEN ALL YOU GUYS THAT BLAME IT ON YOUR EYES.

Find a straight putt about 8 feet. Line up the line on the ball to be straight. Be definite. Address the ball and see how far left your aim feels. Keep doing that before you ply or when you practice. until it feels straight. Prob takes a month or so. In the meantime and anytime after use the line to line up your line and TRUST it’s straight and putt away.

Great first post.

Your rant suggesting laying on one compensation to fix another is the epitome of what you rail against.

I think alignment and perception of alignment is something that needs to be worked on.

I’ve taken a recent practice of aimpointing my start line and marking it with a tee, aiming the putter at the tee, laying down a putting plate down to check where the putter is aimed, correctly aiming the plate (if it’s wrong) and then hitting the putt.

I took this from a derek uyeda seminar. Seems sensible.

interestingly - I’ve an Edel - I aim well on straight and left to right. Poorly on right to left putts.

I am going to make some assumptions.

Right eye dominant.

Ball forward in the stance.

Address the ball from an open body line, then try to sqaure up from that position.

Possible solution if I am correct.

Use a Narrow Stance or address the ball with your feet together. This will move the ball closer to the right eye without having to play the ball on the wrong side of your arc.

Once you are set do not change your set up if you feel off. Just hit the ball where the putter is pointed.

Would a centre shafted putter not help the OP too?
