It is going to be really interesting to see what happens with athletics within High Schools when/if they return in the fall. I have read and have kept up on all of the guidelines. Golf is a lower risk sports, but transporting kids to events will be a problem.

2. Transportation to events Schools must consider social distancing requirements when scheduling contests and events for the fall. Social distancing (as required by state or local health department) will need to be maintained on buses/vans. Thus, multiple buses/vans and/or parental/guardian transportation will likely be needed.

Football Team transportation will cost a fortune. Most school buses will fit 48 Adult riders 2 per seat. 1 per seat is 24. To maintain proper social distancing that is 12 to a bus. 1 every other seat. Does that mean they will have to take 5-6 buses to handle all the players/staff/equipment? That will cost a fortune. A golf team is more than likely going to have to take a short bus now and hire a driver. I don't see it financially feasible to play matches with social distancing unless parents are driving kids to matches.

"In each fiscal year, football revenue has gone up, In fiscal 2019, Utah football brought in $65.7 million, while its net assets were $34.6 million. The $65.7 million accounted for two-thirds of all athletic-department revenue over that time period."

 

Unfortunately, the math dictates what has to happen.  The shame is that many of the players would rather play.

Dead period extended to January 1st. Are coaches going to recruit kids they’ve never seen play?

Its getting to that point.  They will put a lot of pressure on kids to commit once its lifted.

 

Son is probably going NAIA.  He is in talks with 5 schools now.  We just can't wait for the NCAA.

Listened to a pod with JT Higgins and he was saying that 2021 graduates are pretty much screwed.  No place to go with kids getting another year of eligibility.  He questioned the NCAA and when they were going to cut off the extensions with the seemingly endless pandemic.

I feel so badly for the 2021 class.  As a parent with kids (oldest in high school) interested in participating in college varsity sports, I'm also concerned how this will affect future classes as well.  Seems like it could have a multi-year negative impact.
