Club Champion Putter Fitting

Wondering if this is typical or not.

Used SAM for 7 putts and got data.

Showed strong arc but minimal face rotation. Discussed usual miss is a push.

Recommended a face balanced mallet at 71* and 3* of loft. Also bent my Anser TR 1966 from what he said was 70/1 to the above spec (now I feel the neck is angled to the face instead of perpendicular.

Tried out a series of FB mallets from various locations on the small putting green which did have a slight break (hard to account for when you can’t read the green indoors or putting across seams) to see which holed the most putts (I can do this at the golf store, I came to get numbers). I also feel like my aim was off on the original data due to the putt breaking somewhat.

I wanted to try one of the recommended putters again on the SAM but was told I’d just get the same results as originally tested. I was wanting to see if the change in putter type, alignment, lie angle, etc. made a difference but didn’t get a chance to compare.

Was given a spec sheet for an Odyssey 7(s) to order - I don’t think he realized this is the slant neck version.

I feel like I walked out with the exact same info I can get on the iPing app (free can. $100) with a putter that has a neck that looks a bit off to me. To be fair, this may just be me.

Didn’t get a printout of the original data, hopefully I can request it.

Adding loft to a putter will make the face appear a bit closed, if that's what you're experiencing. I know that I have that problem with a plumber's neck putter that Club Champion fit me into, bent to 4 degrees of loft. It's one of the reasons I've gone back to a flow neck putter with a more standard 3 degrees of loft (the other reason having nothing to do with the fitting and just the face on the Betti, which is a bit too soft for me).

At my fitting, I was told that I could try out as many putters on SAM as I wanted. I ended up trying out my standard gamer at the time (Toulon Columbus), the Bettinardi that I eventually bought, and a Taylormade Juno, and was given three result documents via email after the fitting.

The fitter did tell me that SAM results really don't change all that much between putters unless you make some substantial changes in your stroke. This was more of an FYI thing - she encouraged me to try out as many as I wanted to on SAM.

Something changed with how club champion does their putter "fittings" in the last year or so. They used to have you putt with your gamer, get data, they would recommend a different putter or slight changes to your gamer, and then you'd validate the changes on SAM so you see the difference.

I recently went to do a session where I just putted with 2 gamers to see which produced the best consistency numbers. I was told I could only putt with one of them or pay for 2 sessions. I laughed and walked out.

Not sure what's going on with them but I am losing all respect with how they operate. It seems to me that you got someone who doesn't know what he's doing.

And btw, going from 1 degree to 3 degrees on a putter will make the putter sit well closed. Did you ping come custom made at 1 degree of loft? Seems low...

I would have thought it came at 3*, standard ping, which made me wonder about some of the measurements he was getting.

Do you mind me asking how much Club Champion charged you for the Betti you needed up buying from them? Wondering how much or if they increased the price over typical retail. I know they charge for putting it together. Thinking about going to them for a putter fitting or going to my local old school club maker.

I'd love to tell you, but I bought the putter on eBay and had them do the rest (ordering and installing the shaft and grip and bending to spec). I want to say I paid around $100 for that part (edit: actually just found the receipt, it was $117 total). That was basically full price for the shaft and grip and whatever they charge for labor, which I remember thinking was reasonable.

I think the only unreasonable thing about their costs is that there is no discount on anything. I would think they'd get some sort of dealer's price on their shafts and whatnot, but you're paying off the rack prices. Maybe that's not unusual, I'm not sure.

I recently went to Club Champion for a putter feeling and really enjoyed both the experience and my fitter.

Putted first with my gamer (now old gamer) and then tried at least 6 different putters the fitter picked for me to try. He answered all my questions and I never felt rushed in any way.

Finally settled on the Bettinardi Inovai 6.0 with the crescent neck.

Overall a great experience and I am very happy with my new gamer (and I am hoping it stops my serial putter infidelity).

Did a full bag fitting at Club Champion recently and had a similar experience with the putters.

The fitter setup my gamer with SAM and I rolled a few to collect some initial data. After that he gave me 4 different putters and told me to hit a few before narrowing it down by look and feel, which surprised me as I thought we would check SAM to see if there were improvements.

That being said, the putter I was fit for has definitely improved my game so I guess I can't complain.

So I’ve done a few fittings with CC, and my experience was that the experience is much better in pieces (I did irons, woods, putter all separately in my more recent fitting) than doing the full bag. I think there’s just an aspect of player and fitter fatigue that starts to set in and the wedges/putter are usually at the end and get rushed a bit. Like, my full bag was just about 3 hours, but the individual sessions were 1-1.5 hours each (so add in wedges and that would be 4-6 hours doing each part of the bag alone). That said, we had a good baseline on my putter to start with - only change was to adjust it back to where we had set it the prior fitting as the lie angle had gotten off a degree.

I was dissapointed with their putter fitting as well, I tried my gamer on SAM and made 7 out of 8 putts. They told me it didn't fit my stroke and to try a face balanced model. Rolled putts with a couple different face balanced model, no SAM, and missed 5 out of 8 putts. Kinda left scratching my head, and definitely didn't buy anything. Wasted $100 for sure.

I have had the same experience at CC. I was going thru a full bag fitting, only had time to do the first half on day one. Did the driver fitting, then headed to the putter because that's all we really had time for. Hit a few with my gamer, made most, then switched to a putter with less toe hang - he gave me a few to choose from and i rolled in maybe a few more. I wanted more data, more explanation, but just told this is the best of me or that I could stick with my gamer. Felt rushed and didn't have all of my questions or concerns addressed. Also, I knew more about putters than he did.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
