Westchester County NY private clubs - cost?

Did a search but information was a bit dated.

I’m thinking about joining a club in Westchester County, NY.

Can any members here give me a sense of what the cost would be?

I realize they may vary depending on the club but just want to get a range.

I was formerly on the board of a Westchester private club, and our auditors also audited most of the other private clubs in the county. They share information about their clients' fees on an anonymous basis to give each client a sense of how their costs stack up against other clubs, so I have a decent sense of what the charges are, or at least what they were a few years ago.

For a regular family membership (not junior, or out of state, or some type of year 1 incentive membership) annual dues, capital assessments, food minimums, whatever annual fees each club charges (locker, golf etc) range from around $20K at the low end to more than $30K at the high end. On top of that, you need to factor in caddies at approx $100 per round or forecaddie at approx $50 per round if you're playing this the morning, cart fees if riding, kids programs, food and drink in excess of the minimum, etc. If you have a family and you're using the club a lot, I would say you're probably going to be in for at least $30K at the low end and $50K+ at the high end.

Initiation fees are all over the place. There are a few that have minimal or no initiation, a few that are comfortably into 6 figures, and most that sit somewhere in the middle.

Not sure where you are located but there are a few good places and cheaper across the tappan see bridge. Check out Rockland and Paramount.

If you are looking into somehwere cheaper, there are semi private Lake Isle Country Club, for private Rye Golf Club,  Hampshire Country Club and Westchester Hills Golf Club.

My son attended gold camp at Lake Isles for two weeks recently. Nice facility and definitely a more affordable option. While the course is short, I don't think I would mind as long as 'm able to play when I want. Trying to get a tee time this summer at both Saxon and Bethpage has been a nightmare. About to give up trying for the Black course. Was hoping to get a round in before aeration at the end of this month.

 

Buddy of mine used to be a member of westchester hills cc but ended up leaving because the assessments each month were getting out of control.

 

For now, the simulator in my garage is good for me so we'll see how it goes.

You have a better chance getting a tee time at the black if you are a single.

Try late night 11pm-2am.

There’ll be some tee times popping up from those who realized they won’t make next morning.

I think last summer has to be a high water mark for golf demand given the pandemic and related restrictions ... hopefully the Black and other courses will be more easily accessed tee times wise

The Black wasn't easily accessible pre-pandemic. You have to get lucky and know how the system works. The public courses in the city and in Westchester were jammed pre-pandemic and were even more so last year. You can hope in one hand and poop in the other - which one do you think will fill up first?
