Why Did I Lose So Much Distance?

Great advice. If you are young, you can find ways to get distance, like shaft lean. The clubs you bought should be really good around the greens, might really surprise you. That is the part I don't like about distance clubs, you really need touch to score low, and distance clubs are horrible around the greens. My Apex 16's are fabulous around the greens, and this is why I want to try the Apex 19's, as I hear a lot of good things about them. Have you thought of mixing the two sets? Keep the Amps for long work, and the Pros for the short game? I see nothing wrong with it and pros do it all the time. I bet it improves your game a lot. I also think you need to extend your Apex clubs as well, to come close to the others if you combo them.

I think you might be right in flex in steel shafts... my last set of irons had regular flex, and i gamed them just fine.

I know I struggle with tempo.

The HIT impulse is strong with me. Haven’t shook it yet, but I know a bad swing when I feel it.

I’m definitely keeping them for now. Hit a shot with every one in the set (Pros are 6-PW) that made me go wow. For the record, this thread isn’t necessarily about me complaining about the distance loss. I’m trying to care less about what number is on the club. This was more of a diagnostic intended to guess at WHY, which the thread has done a solid job of getting at.

Glad to hear that as mine are coming in Tues. I will be going very soft in the shaft, to gain more distance. I hope they perform better than the 16"s. The 16's around the green are very good clubs. I am having a blast with the Aw and Pw. The 6 iron is very impressive, long and straight. Why I left them is puzzling.

Played nine today and I found the Apex 19 was not that forgiving as the Apex 16, and the F9 is even better. But, when struck well it was a very high reward, as the accuracy is on another planet. I really like these, and will make the effort to get them dialed in. Right now the F9's are better in my view, way more forgiving, and very accurate. But I really like the feel of these that the F9's lack. I started using the hit it on the toe trick, and it made a big difference . I also think the different shaft will take some getting used to. It is time to be a range rat and get these squared away.

@SouthLand admittted in open forum: "Granted, I didn’t get fit. Mortal sin, I know. ..."
So, you took something that works and - on a lark - went into the great unknown ... and things aren't working out.But look at the bright side - you're finding the ins and outs of iron sets, and what makes them work.
And, from how you describe your misses, I have advice: Take lessons! From your description, you went from one set of bad habits to another.
And as you said at the end of your starting post: "Musings, insights, insults, and jests all welcome."I hope that tough love is also acceptable.

I didnt read everyones comments and im sure this has been said... these clubs are a no no for you basically overall. Everything for you is wrong with them. Shaft, length and iron heads. I am about a 15 handi im 31 and have been playing since 12 but more steadily thenpast 10 years about once a week during spring to fall. I can shoot from a 80 to a 95 bad day. I was recently between apex pros and mizuno mmc 20. They are basically same clubs but the mmc seem a hair more forgiving. That being said even when i misshit them i lose 5 yards... my point is.. my shafts fits me, i think? Im a better iron striker and still i love 5 yards. Its just a bit fit as they are players irons. You probably need game improvment irons with a stiff 95g or 105g reg shaft either little or some offset.

Can you just return the clubs to CPO and order a set of CF 19 ? These ones looks more like an option for a 22 handicap player who wants some extra distance in his irons. The Apex Pros are not the easiest clubs to hit, i think you will benefit from a more forgiving distance players club like the CF 19's. On the other side of things, why would your Pro suggested to go with an iron set with less offset ? Offset is your friend, once your swing becomes more in sync and your ball striking gets better then you can determine if you need a little less offset in your clubs.
