Ping Eye 2 woods at the driving range

Recently bought an entire set of Ping Eye 2 irons and 1,3,4,5 woods with a Ping cart bag for $25 on Facebook…a total steal but the guy prob didn’t know what he had!

 

In any case, i have 4 sets of the most modern crap out there but decided to play with the woods yesterday, normally use the Ping irons anyways, and I can tell the experience of hitting the woods was awesome!  
 

Interestingly enough I actually scored lower on the holes I used the Ping woods!  Love the sound,  the feel when you hit the ball, and made a nice easy swing…tons of fun!  It was actually more satisfying to hit the ball well with the Old Ping than to hit a 300yard drive with a modern driver…215yards was fine and the old school wood sound is awesome.  May ditch the new stuff and play the hole round with the woods in the bag it was THAT much fun!

Resurrecting this thread to say:

 

I played a full set of Ping Eye 2's, including 1, 3 and 5 woods, in my 20's.  That was back in the early/mid '80's when they were new. I can say that the woods are probably some of the least forgiving clubs I've ever hit. Normal user can not possibly hurt these heads.

A swift email to Ping customer service should suffice. They usually get back within a day. The drivers came in multiple lofts from, if I recall, 9 degrees up to 12.5. A different dot on the sole plate signified the loft.

Ping E2 driver lofts:

Green = 10.5*

Black = 12*

Red = 13.5*

Orange = 15*

 

E2 Fairway lofts:

#3 = 16.5*
#4 = 19*
#5 = 22*
#6 = 25*
#7 = 29*

 

E2/Zing woods seem to be polarizing.  Peeps either like them or hate them, not much middle ground.  I find them to be relatively easier to play than comparable persimmons for some reason.  Especially the fairways.  Have an E2 D and 4w equipped with OE graphite that I play on occasion.  Stand a chance with them as opposed to the all to prevalent heavy and stiff (S400) in to many of the persimmons in inventory.

Zing Drivers were easy to hit with the CFP and Aldila shafts. Fairways were far too clunky.

I just *have to* bring up, again, that my longest drive of the past five seasons, not cart path aided, was with a Zing Blonde laminate (green dot fwiw) with KT-M shaft.

 

Yes, I had to do it.  LOL

And I will state that the longest drive I have hit in the last 5 years was with an original Callaway Big Bertha War bird with RCH 90 shaft by Aldila, the steel version none-the-less.  😉
