Next rules revision?

Beyond the ongoing quarterly Clarifications, does anyone recall any official R&A or USGA reference as to what year the next new rules revision will be issued?

I have not seen nor heard anything on the issue.

It may take awhile. I sent them a list of revisions as long as my arm. 🙄

I'm aware that plans continue to advance on a range of improvements but as of early this year (not aware if anything has changed since then) I understand there were no decisions taken on the form and timing of the next version of the Official Guide.

The new people on board are still trying to get their heads around hitting a ball out of bounds and having the potential for a nice lie in a fairway - they may be stymied.

I hear that based on the momentum from the previous revision, some early favorites for revision include:

 

• For a ball in a penalty area that can be played, the ability to pick it up and drop within 6 club lengths in the fairway, no nearer the hole, no penalty.
• For a ball resting in a divot, the ability to move it to a proper lie.  Rough or fairway.  No nearer the hole, no penalty.
• Removal of the penalty stroke for lifting a dropping a ball from out of a bunker.

Dark horse for the revision, but in the long term plans:

• A second flagstick on each green that may be laid perpendicular to the line of putt, no less than 12 inches beyond the hole, no more than 18.  Deduct one stroke for a ball that comes to rest between the cup and the second flagstick.

 

This will further the great improvements in growing the game from the previous revision.
