Slazenger Hogan Starburst Irons

Northplatteriver, thanks for the response. Are you saying the Hogan Sabers play like '88 Redlines? That would be a great reference as I regularly play Redlines - see profile pic (not that you can tell).

Strangely, i would say the Redlines actually feel harder off the face than the Slazenger Precision's or Starburst/Sabers but that could be partly down to shafts.

I hate to admit but as I get older and more decrepit my favoured Apex4's are getting to be a bit of a struggle. ☹ Switched to a set of regular flex Fg17's mid season!

You made me lol with that last comment Foozle.  Thats some ultimate Classic Section goodness right there.  You needed more forgiveness from your Redlines so you switched to Wilson fg17's.  That is the coolest thing I've read here in a week!

Looks like the stamping on the 8 iron is not aligned like it is on the 9 iron in the beginning of this thread.  Kind of like to see things like that.  You would imagine those stampings would have been done by machine to ensure they were the same, but this makes me think they were still hand stamped.  I enjoy that hand made aspect of the clubs from this era and the slight quirks you see like that.

Yes, there are quirks all through the set with the stamping. I'd definitely say that they're hand stamped.

The great advantage of stainless steel clubs is that they do clean up really well and being a very soft SS they play great.

I loved mine. I have a set of Slazenger ‘72 Apex too, but the shafts are far too soft, so I only ever hit them on the range. You’re absolutely correct about the feel.

Did you ever think about buying a set of sacrificial irons for the shafts and swapping them over?

I can’t play anymore so it’s moot now. I’ll pass them on to anyone who wants them for p&p.

I have 2-9 irons and 1-4 woods in Apex 2s. The woods aren’t in great condition, but the irons cleaned up okay (I did a few before having to give up).
