In the U.K. do you guys play these handicap competitions at different courses, or are all the scores in your handicap from the same course?

every round at every course of the competition tees is taken into account!
Or should be...
Cards from every course you play effect your handicap unless the Championship tee's are used and ss is something absolute stupid like mega over.
Very accurate reflection of a golfes ability.

Nope you can play socially at most places:)

you play socially of the yellow tee's like everyday tee's courses are usually around 300-400 yards shorter and ss differs.

No, on the contrary, most rounds are played casually as you need more than 30 people to be playing to establish a CSS etc and for it to be a 'proper' competition with handicap adjustmnets

in Wales its 14 people + qualifies for a competition score to enable a handicap adjustment...
a ss is based on how many players COMPLETE the competition and do not N/R..

lol makes sense in some ways, but seems like alot of work. I dont really mind the system over here, because if they aren't honest about their handicaps, most of them have vanity handicaps, so it makes it easier to make some money off them

-repeat for back nine.
-not go crazy after hip surgery mid-July. (not golfing for 6 weeks or more when i live 10 min. from a course will kill me.)
-lose weight. (at 240-ish, wanting to drop to 220 or less.)
-actually hit the green on the par 3 fourth hole. (which has an elevated green and requires a 5 wood or better.)

i'm not asking for too much, am I?

my ambitions for this year is
- get down to scratch or better
- win my A grade club champs
- finish in top 20 in big state tournaments i play in
- learn to be more confident

Get down to around 2 this year.
Get a consistent swing before the season starts so im not working on things throughout.
Somehow improve my putting, even if it means belly putter.
Keep working at short game.
Win some junior comps, like county champs. Last year of junior golf need a few wins.
Try and get in the U18 county line up.

And im not the biggest fan of our handicap system here. At my course and at pretty much all junior comps CSS always goes down so to play to handicap im probably having to shoot 3 over, to get cut i have to be about level or under, its tough to get down.

I have some rather specific goals for this year. I am a numbers/ statistics kind of guy so you will have to forgive my use of stats as benchmarks for goals.

1. Improve my average putts per round to 31. (Currently about 32.5)
2. Increase GIR average to 10 per round. (Currently about 7)
3. Improve my "2's" average (number of strokes taken from 20 yards and in after a green has been missed or close in two on a par 5) to 2.25. (Currently about 2.3)
4. Break 70 in tournament play (had a lot of close calls, but never been able to quite get it done)
5. Win another event (again, alot of close calls, but its been a little over a year since the last one)
6. Improve fairways hit stat to 80%. (Currently about 65%- this one is going to take a lot of work)
7. Improve sand save percentage to 60%. (Currently about 50%- this one will improve as the putting improves- too many missed 6 footers after good bunker shots)


I took on opposite approach this offseason to meeting these goals than normal. [b]I did absolutely nothing![/b] Most years I hit balls about once every two weeks during the snowy season into a net at my local club and obsessively analyze video of my swing, but I haven't done that at all this winter. Since the end of September I've only played two rounds (in the middle of December on vacation) and have putted a little bit in doors. I was pleasantly surprised at how well I played on vacation. I think my stretch of poor play to finish out last summer really got to me and being able to step away from the game for awhile has allowed me to regroup so that i can come out firing when we start up at the end of February for school golf (assuming of course that the snow is off the ground- highly doubtlful at this point).

well here are my goals from the past seasons and the results:
Freshman year- Win a varsity tournament (won 5)
Sophomore year- average under 72 (finished 73.4)
Junior year- average in the 60's (averaged 39 putts per round so that "goal" didn't come close to happening lol)

Now my Senior year I want to get my putts back down into the 20's. I hit an average of 16 greens last year I just would 3-jack more than I would solo sink it.

I should also note I got hit by a car in august of my freshman year and it broke my back so when golf season came aroun din spring I had spent 6 months putting. Its a good story actually, pm me if you want to hear it. Its pretty damn rugged if you ask me.

Qualify for a USGA event.
Learn to putt which would make the afforementioned goals very attainable...

.average about 10 greens a round

.play several varsity events(freshman year)

.stick with a set the whole year(maybe two!)

.win my club championship

.defend as junior club championship
