Well until you miss an important FG ...than it's no fun and it's a lonely bus ride. At the end of the day i hated being a kicker even though i was good at it. It's the reason i stopped playing 

 

There's thousands of guys that can kick 60 yarders, less people who can make 50 yarders in games, but the number of guy who could probably go 35/40 in an NFL season is likely in the thousands. Right place at right time as you say

 

 

 

 

Totally true! Practice was cake. I was on the game field and couldn't be seen from practice fields. I would jump rope to get loose, kick maybe 25-30 balls then the hot tub and sportscenter until the end of practice. The real pressure comes on game day and can be a very lonely place for sure! It is a lot like golf. I see lots of guys that are great in friendly games, but when the pressure is on, you quickly find out who shows up and who doesn’t.

I have no problem with Vanderbilt giving her an opportunity, this was a lost season for the team anyways due to covid and they also were very bad....

 

What I do have a problem with is that the SEC gave her the special teams player of the week award. I know that those awards are pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things but there's a lot of athletes out there that may think otherwise. Many athletes don't get an opportunity to play on offense or defense and they get just a few plays a game to make an impact. The fact that she got the award for kicking one squib kick is kind of bologna.

Are, have been, and will always be very bad... Trust me, I'm a Vandy grad. 

 

I think this was an interesting bit of history... Vanderbilt doesn't have a men's soccer team. I'm sure there were some guys who played soccer in high school, but I'm confident Sara could outkick them, especially in a competitive environment. I'm willing to believe Vanderbilt actually found the best kicker eligible for their team (I'm assuming Scott Bakula lost his eligibility in the 00s) and I think she did a fine job for a terrible team. 

 

I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing in 5 years she will be an answer at trivia night at bars across the country. She did make history, though.

 

Honestly, Vanderbilt is never going to compete in the SEC in Football... I'm not sure if it's better or worse that we pretend to try.
