Just to say it, the MMT 80 is a completely different shaft. It's the parallel version not the taper tip and has a different profile/different characteristics. I appreciate the input of course but unfortunately there's a pretty significant gap between the 80 and 105 or 125 shafts.

Interestingly, when I look on the MCA site, seems like there are quite a few different MMT profiles.

There are the Iron shafts (which I think you were comparing the 125s to), the Tapers (clearly quite a bit more stout), the UI shafts (also stronger w/ 105 and 125 versions), and then the Hybrids I was demoing the 80X in (NOT the same as the Iron 80X), up to a TX at 109g. Would love to see EI curves on these various shafts. Haven't been able to dig any up online.

My point was, without sounding offensive, the thread was discussing a specific weight irons shaft and you posted about a hybrid shaft at a completely different weight level which had no relevance to the topic

Fair enough. Just offering 2¢ on a related shaft. Tech is the same. OP was asking about MMT 125S compared to DG S300, in terms of feel and loading. I thought the hybrid feel might be informative, esp since I've played steel in my hybrids (X100s) forever.

For me, iron and hybrid shafts are intimately related. My C-Taper 130s blend well into my Tour Green 105TX. (In fact, I'd like to replicate that feel in DR/ 3W.)

IME, the MMT felt closer to steel than any shaft I've tried (yes, in a hybrid). Snappy and metallic, but with a bit too much tip action at that 80X weight/ flex. May not be useful info. OP can say.

A fit 40 year old with 93 avg swing speed w/ 7 iron -  is 125tx too much? Maybe soft step once?

I am playing Modus 125x right now and like those but wouldn't mind a tad softer (feel the club load more). I am going to go demo/quick fit both here soon but just looking for general guidance. Without any data, I am leaning towards 125s but I am more x100 than s300 so hoping the 125s is a good middle ground that I can keep in the bag for a while in my 40's.

Util a year ago, I played Taper tip, MMT 125 stiff in 620 MB 3-PW, with Taper Tip, MMT 125TX 8i shafts in 2-SM6 wedges, lasted about two years.  MMT 125S are plenty stiff enough for most people.  Background I played X100 and 6.5 before PX 6.0 for 15+yrs, before considering composite.

I currently play px 6.0 in my 790’s. I’m sitting on a set of mmt 105tx to put in my soon to arrive 245 heads but now second guessing if I should put in mmt 125s??? Initially went with the 105tx bc of the tennis elbow I’m suffering. What did you switch to this year for shafts?

Importance of weight can vary a lot from person to person. I went from DG S300 (130g) to 95g Fujikura Pro Iron, and loved them. But after 2 years of very inconsistent golf, with some good rounds, and a lot of terrible rounds, I was questioning the weight. I was going to switch to 115g Pro irons, but couldn't pass up a fantastic deal on AMT White X100's. I only got 5 rounds in with them before the season ended, but those 5 rounds were my most consistent iron play in 2 years.

IMO moving to 105tx might be too noticeable coming from 120g PX 6.0.  After trimming, MMT 125s are less than 125g, how much not sure.

If I could, I'd be in MMT 125S.  I am not a good weight resource presently, as I am still trying to find a correct weight.  Currently, I am testing MMT 85S in 3i-PW, and not sure how I feel.  They might be too light, still, so may reinstall 95S or 105S.  Thankfully, I have all the sets, so at least there's that good. 🙂

I went and ordered the 125s and let’s see what happens. Thanks for the input.

I’ve played them for about a month now and can’t really compare them to anything. I played the px 6.0 for a couple years and the mmts just feel nice and smooth. I def went in the right direction with the 125s vs the 105tx.

like them so much just ordered another shaft to build out the set with a 4i. I soft stepped the full set I had 5-GW.

X100 is the closest steel equivalent, IMO.  MCA supposedly designed to be similar in terms of launch/spin.  I find MMT to launch slightly higher and spin a bit less though.  PX feels harsh, IMO, whereas MMT is on the smoother side.

Think I'm going to order a set of QI's tomorrow with the MMT 125 stiff shafts.  Going in blind but recently hit the Steelfiber 125 and Axiom 125, both felt like butter compared to these $Tapers.

Any update on the AMT Tour White X100 shafts, you still enjoying them or have you gotten out more than those 5 rounds?

I am considering those shafts atm.

Still winter here, but I did play two rounds in Florida two weeks ago, and played really good. Very happy with them.

A few years ago, I played one season with AMT S300's, and liked those too.
