MCA MMT-125 Stiff Flex

bosgolfer

Recommended Posts

I see a lot of posts/feedback on the MMC-125 TX flex. I don’t have the swing speed to be able to properly load these. Was looking for input on the MMT-125 Stiff flex. Have tried graphite in the 110 gram range but I get wildly inconsistent as my tempo changes. Heard the 125 TX  spins less than Dynamic Gold X and flies lower than KBS C-Taper.
my questions to people who have played the MMT-125 S:

how do they compare to Dynamic Gold S300 in terms of loading, flight, spin?

is Dynamic gold the closest profile to the MMC, or is there another steel shaft with a closer profile?

thanks in advance.

Do they offer 125 in stiff? I thought it was TX only

EDIT: I see stiff is listed on site- guess I heard TX only available currently

I just got a set of the 125g stiff shafts.  Planning to install them in some Apex Pros.  No feedback on performance yet....I just jumped in blind.

The one thing I can tell you is they don't fly any lower than C-Tapers.  I have the 125 TX soft stepped once.  They have a firm smooth feel with a slight kick at impact.

I disagree.  From what I've seen the MMT seem to launch a tad lower than the c-taper and I have gamed both.  Then again it could've been due to different iron heads.  I do agree with the rest of your post.

Would love to know what steel shafts are the closest bend profile match. Did you move from PX to MMTs?

I am a tuff one to ask tat to.. I spin the PX just right and DG's too much. The 125 stiffs seem to sit right in the middle of the two for me. WIth that being said, I have them in  the P770's at 1 degree weak. I have not played them a lot yet but dispersion seems to be the same for me as my PX 6.0's.. The did swing weight a little heavy D4 but I think I like it. THe reason for me for the switch was my tennis elbow but time will tell if it helps that issue... The feel of these shafts with the head I am playing will take me time to get used to for sure. I have always played a one piece forged head until these clubs. I can feel where I am missing it but it also feels a touch "mushy" not in a good way...

Does the MMT load closer to a 1 piece shaft (Project X) or a higher flex point like Dynamic Gold?

Is this based on a launch monitor back to back, or a highly calibrated eyeball?

Eye test.  I gamed the c-tapers 10 years ago.  It's more than likely the different iron heads that produced the results.

Built a pitching wedge with the MMT-125 Stiff. Really a well balanced shaft. Superb feeling. Ball flight very similar to DG S300. They are very stable. I think they play a touch stiff to flex particularly in the midsection.

I played the 105 for a little bit last year in p770’s and just got the 125 in zx7’s. I would lean towards them feeling pretty close to the same bend, just different weight. Both feel pretty stiff on the waggle test but are smoother in the real swing. The only issue I’m having is with consistency in my gw and pw when playing 3/4 knockdown type shots.

Not the 125, but I was just demo-ing an Apex Pro 18° hybrid w/ MMT 80X. Very crisp, light, snappy feeling shaft. If you like steel in your irons, I think you'll like it in whatever weight/flex is appropriate for your swing. (I'm an old X100 guy, and this is the closest I've felt to steel in a graphite shaft.)

(That said, for my swing, the 80X had too much kick at the tip. Perfect if I timed it just right, and held it off, but had too many quick lefts to game the X. Will be looking for a TX in heavier weight for both my hybrid and utility iron. Apparently they make a 125 and a 113. Really nice shaft though!)

Just to say it, the MMT 80 is a completely different shaft. It's the parallel version not the taper tip and has a different profile/different characteristics. I appreciate the input of course but unfortunately there's a pretty significant gap between the 80 and 105 or 125 shafts.

Understood, that makes sense, I'll have to try the 125 tapers, thanks 👍

MMT 105 and 125 will play the same in terms of launch and spin.  I've tested both in TX flex and can confirm this.
