Ventus Sim 2, 5mph quicker

I've been playing a TM R1 driver since it came out and I love it. I recently went to a driver fitting day to see if anything could match the performance, and out of all the head shaft combinations the SIM2 with a ventus shaft gave a 5mph quicker club head speed (max 97mph)and an average of 21 yards further distance. The fitter couldn't explain why this was the only combination which was out and out quicker than anything else, so I thought I'd ask you guys if you could explain - anyone any ideas?

I know for me the Ventus line plays a lot into the mental side of things. The shafts are so stable, and keep the ball on line so well that I am more comfortable swinging freely and probably swinging a bit faster as a result.

could be, but I never looked at any of the shafts that we tried, he just put them in and I hit them, and the ventus was just so much quicker which I dont understand, as other lighter shafts were slower. Very odd.

I think that’s a perfect example of it. You could feel, and see the flight difference so subconsciously your brain let your body and swing flow more freely

My drives (and scores) have improved considerably after moving to a Ventus shaft in my driver... and now to a Sim Max2 head. As others stated, knowing it's going straight allows me to swing more freely.

Since the adapters are compatible, did your fitter put the Ventus in the R1 head to compare?

The SIM was designed to be more aerodynamic but it usually has more impact on faster swings. Could be the Ventus has a different balance point and weighting than your R1 setup or even a different length. Without putting the shaft into the R1 head and matching length and swingweight, you won't really be able to know if the head design is playing a role in your faster speed.

I'm just guessing that the Sim2 has a longer shaft than the R1. An Inch or more would do the increase in club head speed.

I have been playing more of late and felt like I was spinning the ball too much off my driver. I went back to Edwin Watts to check it out and the fitter said "Keep the Ventus 6-R with VeloCore - it fits you well, but lets find a head that lowers your spin." He took me from a 9.0 Sim Max2 to an 8.0 Sim2 (adjusted to 8.75). Once I got comfortable with it, my swing speed jumped from 88-90 to around 95 consistently. I picked up almost 30 yards on average as my spin dropped 2,000 rpm from 4,500-4,750 on average and my ball flight straightened out as a result of less spin. I can't wait to hit the course with it.
