ZX4 long iron vs ZX Utility

Entirely possible. My ZX5 5-P are Modus 120 Stiff, but I went with the stock Nippon 950GH Neo Stiff in the ZX4 4 iron. Very similar weight compared to the Recoil in the ZXU, but obviously different characteristics. Something about the the Recoil "doesn't feel like an iron shaft" to me, if that makes sense. I also have no other real experience with graphite shafts in iron heads, so there's that. And the ZXU is about 1/2" longer, so there could certainly be something in that too.

Put my zx4 mmt 95 stiff against a zxu 23 mmt 90 ssx1. Both adjusted to 23* decided recently (today) to move back to a straight zx5 set up as I don't get to play like I once did and was wanting to make sure in had the right 4i in the bag. 

 

Thought for sure the zx4 would win. As good as it is, I seem to hit the ZXU better. Now it's close enough where it could be the shaft. But I couldn't escape reading the low spin on the ZX4. I'm an oddity where I actually need spin and admittedly, the 4 seems to die and fall a bit shorter than the u. 

 

I'm not 100% sold on either.  In fact, might grab another 90 as the parallels are a bit higher launching and spinner than the tapers.

 

I don't think you could wrong as both performed really well.

Took my zx utilty 20* out for the first 2 rounds this weekend. It's an amazing club! Compared to the ping g410 crossover it's night and day for me. I can hit any shot I want with it. With the ping I always fought the overdraw which would then creep into my mind and swing. Feel and sound isn't even close either. I did have my zx hotmelted so it feels buttery and sounds great. The zx also blends better with my zx7s as well. I find this club forgiving as well!! Homerun by srixon with this club!!

Thanks for this post. I was literally trying to figure this out today. I am going to end up with the ZX5 4i, ZX4 4i, and ZX Utility 4i - all the same Modus 120S shaft. One of these has to work... right 🤪

Love the utility.  Great looking, great preforming club.  I’ve not hit the ZX4 but I’m sure it’s very good, the utility just fit my eye better than the 4
