Help me decide where I should go for a spring break golf trip

Recommended Posts

I am part of a foursome that is looking for some ideas.
I am just looking for some help as to where my friends and I should play golf in the middle of March. I understand that there is a ton of ideas but I just want some reason why the golf is great and why the surrounding areas would be fun as well. We are all coming from MN and all four of us around decent golfers. (ranging from about an 8 handicap to a 13) I typically travel to the Naples/Fort Myers area twice a year so I would ideally like to go somewhere different. Help me out, please!

We are willing to pay big for one round at a great course and then two to three rounds at a lesser rate (125 - 150). I can stay at just about any Marriott hotel for really cheap because of my mother in law's discount, as she is an employee. The discount usually gets us in a room for about $30.00 per night. We would rather have some great golf, but something to do at night would definitely be a nice thing to have.

Lets see, well there is Palm Springs, and also Palm Springs, o and did I mention Palm Springs!!!! Anyone who has been there would never reccomend anywhere else, google map it, and zoom a bit the amount of courses is just NUTZ, and quality courses!! If you want a challenge can you say the PGA West Stadium course, they are playing the Bob Hope at the PGA West Palmer course this weekend.

I have to agree with Simp on Palm Springs. There are tons of resort courses that are somewhat challenging and there is a golfers paradise at PGA West (the pros petitioned the stadium course at PGA West off the PGA tour becuase it could play too difficult and it's nice to play where they play Q school at. O ya and I forgot the island green 17th.)
What about Thailand? March is dry over there, hot weather, good golf courses and do I need to say anything about night life :):(
Mr. Easy gets my vote for being one of the wisest golfers on this forum. He knows what he speaks of. Listen to him!!!

Hop on NWA or United, fly to Bangkok, grab a limo and be in Pattaya in 45 mins and on the course in an hour. It is an unbelievable Golf paradise
with 20 fantastic courses within 30 mins of Pattaya and the best "after hours" you could ever imagine.

Danke, "Wan"

Mesquite, NV- Fly into Vegas and do a day or two there, drive up and enjoy the golf in Mesquite, and take a trip up to southern Utah to see Zion Nat'l Park.

Tampa, FL- World Woods in Brooksville for golf, lots of stuff to do in the area like Busch Gardens in Tampa, Ybor, the beaches, ect.

Sedona, AZ- Beautiful scenery, I've heard nice things about the golf, and you could make a sidetrip to the Grand Canyon.

Jeffy,

From one Minnesotan to another, I would recommend the RTJ Golf Trail. Flights to ATL are super cheap from MSP and then it's just a couple of hours in the car to the Montgomery and Auburn area courses. The courses in the Mobile area are good.

It's a tremendously affordable trip and most of the complexes have 36 holes to play. There isn't tons of nightlife, but the golf is really good and if you're playing 36 a day, about all you want is a decent dinner and a couple of beers.

Bandon - Are you kidding? Huge $$$.

Alabama/RTJ - Great courses, selection and value. Some non-RTJ courses in area are at least as good: Capstone, Limestone Springs.

Las Vegas - Sorry... only fair quality (Paiute is exception) and not cheap.

St George Utah - Becoming popular. Fun desert golf, good value.

Myrtle Beach - Mecca.

New Mexico - Check out Paa-Ko Ridge, Sandia, Black Mesa.

Palm Springs - Lots to choose from. Sweet area.

I would recommend MB...you can get some great deals for multiple courses, rooms, dinner, etc...for 4-6 days and be around $500. Some buddies did 3 nights and 4 days with two rounds per day except first day...and paid less than $400. They played 4 or 5 different courses..... over 100+ courses in Myrtle Beach area....you wont be disappointed.

There is a reason it is the top golf destination in America...for price, quality and beauty of the courses...everything from Links style to traditional to exotic.....
