2021 CWO cancelled again

It's unfortunate.

I know some here were doubting me weeks ago when I predicted the cancellation of this event.

I guess Dr. Bonnie Henry and John Horgan are not golfers....meanwhile....last Sunday at the Indy 500....135,000 fans were seated side by each without masks....hmmmm.

I know a Shaughnessy member and I don't think many are too disappointed.....having to give up the course for up to 2 weeks.

All the privates....are PACKED dawn to dusk with continuing no guests allowed.

Actually ALL the courses here are PACKED dawn to dusk...near impossible to get tee times....and MAJOR PRICE GOUGING.

i got an annual pass last Dec because of these issues.

The CWO will return here in 2023....I last fanboyed at the 2016 KPMG.

Bless Leaf fans, my favorite part of watching them crash out of the playoff every year (well when they make it) are all the fans burning jerseys after the game 😂

As a Habs fan I did not expect that comeback against the Leafs.  I am happy to see the Pens hit the course early.

As you know....I'm not a fanboy of any Canadian male or female golf pro...so it's comes as no surprise that I HATE the Canucks...especially the CHOKERS from 2011.

The press release acknowledged that BC is ready for it given that we will be back to 100% as of September 4th  (i.e.: full concerts again, etc.).

My suspicions are more along the lines of:

a)  the poor spot on the calendar -- Playing the Women's British Open at Carnoustie then having the players jump on a plane to fly to Vancouver (which would be a 10-11 hour direct flight from Heathrow) and an 8 hour time difference ... only for the Europeans and Americans to head back to Inverness Sunday evening to play Solheim;  (implications for the field strength )

b)  the other would be the internal politics of Golf Canada and having a celebratory CP Women's Open played in Ottawa to mark post Covid19 instead of British Columbia;  and

c)  Golf Canada could not put enough of a plan in place to satisfy the border restrictions (as of now - but the border restrictions are looking to come off in July -- latest word out of Ottawa)  ... which should be a no-brainer especially if all players coming in had been fully vaccinated.  (LPGA issue)

In my 1st post above.....the Golf Canada press release that I attached a link...makes no mention of this.

“I recognize how devastating it must have been for organizers to once again have to cancel the 2021 CP Women’s Open due to the continuation of Federal travel restrictions,” said Melanie Mark, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. “However, with the majority of adults vaccinated and COVID-19 case counts steadily declining, I feel more optimistic than ever about B.C.’s restart plan and our ability to welcome the world back to our province once again. I would like to thank the entire CP Women’s open community for your unwavering commitment to the power of sport.”

That is press release speak for politely saying that we in B.C. were ready ... others were not.

On the tee box of the 5th hole:

Korda Caddy:   Yeah, Canada is a no go . . .

SYR:   So you just go to Solheim right after "Women's British Open" . . . that works out better for you guys

Nelly:  Oh yeah, works better for us . . .

I said earlier in the season and also probably a factor in the cancellation, the Canadian Open was probably gonna have it's weakest field ever.

Yep.  It's definitely one of the factors ... and that "blame" belongs at the doorstep of both the LPGA and Golf Canada.   Golf Canada and their provincial associations are primarily private clubs.

The LPGA is being shortsighted by giving the Canadian dates short shrift.  It's their biggest market in the world on a per capita basis and in gross terms second largest only to the United States.

It isn’t simply about the number of deaths in BC. The BC CDC website shows very few new cases in the Vancouver area.  Canada’s treating entire provinces as one entity instead of tailoring restrictions to particular problem areas.  The rest of the world has figured out how to allow athletes to travel and to run a golf tournament without it being a super spreader event; I don’t see why Canada can’t manage it other than a total lack of will.

Canada's being too overly cautious.

It's a big rip off for anyone flying into Canada and then having to spend up to $2000 for a 3 day mandatory hotel stay and following by another 10 day quarantine.

You still haven't shown a link that says:
