Just wondered...back in '92 I bought a set of Magnum Plus', my first ever "pro" set. I don't see much difference between the Magnum & the Plus outside of the name...maybe the sole is a bit wider

I have a set of Hogan irons that are stamped "Classic"  I cannot see any reference to them in your posts. I have been told they are very collectable. They have a serial number beginning with a J and the Apex shafts are marked 'exclusively for Japan. I'd welcome any information.

Love these clubs. I have a good friend who is a Hogan aficionado (Teevons, see above). He has a superb collection of Hogan’s. He is also a club dealer so if you are looking for something reaching out to him is a good idea.

 

As for myself I’d love to play a set of Hogan blades, but I’m in my mid sixties now and I went to graphite a year ago. It was hard getting used to the feel at first but after a few false starts I found a shaft I liked and I’m happy with them. Now I swing a steel club and it just doesn’t work for me. Low ball flight, less distance, I start swinging harder to compensate and well…the results are predictably poor. The Hogan #4 graphite from the 90’s isn’t bad, but not as good as something you can get today. Even the less expensive modern graphite is better than anything from 30 years ago. Buying a set of say Redlines or Grinds and then putting steel fiber taper tips in there is a time consuming and very expensive process. It’s the taper tip that’s the issue, good .370 graphite is plentiful and cheap but taper tip, not so much. I might try and find a set with the Hogan 4 graphite and see. If I can find them it might be worth the experiment.

I don't come  to this site too often anymore but would add a little info missing from comments regarding expierimental irons and woods

I owned almost every iron set and putter Hogan made including all the anniversary sets, woods and putters

I took this picture about 12 years ago knowing we were moving and none would believe me if I said what I owned at one time!I Amost all sets shown had 1 iron in bag,including Precision and sabers

We needed to sell most everything moving to small place in the CA desert from Seattle.

Regarding Precision experimentals I have owned and still have a few of them, woods and irons

Irons I've owned will have Boxed grooves  with short hosel with crescent , long hosel with crescents . I also have a partial set of experimental without out boxed grooves with X stamped on ferrule, Some sets were stamped with experimental on ferrule and some had an X stampd on ferrules

There are several versions of experimental woods alo

the rarest woods have nothing on the soleplate and the numbers are stamped on toe, Then there are Precision stamped on Hosel and number stamped on toe and then there are Precision with Precision and number stamped on soleplate 

Woods will be stamped with an X on neck or experimental stamped on neck

All precisions  have Crescent stamped design on leather grips

End caps will be either blank, Stamped with large H or white circle, and I have seen the Hogan script on end cap also

Early Experimental Precision woods are either black or brown finish, some have personal model decal and all have Ben Hogan with blue and red lines underneath

Hey everyone, I’ve done a bit of research about a set of clubs that my grandfather owns but even more info never hurts! They are a set of S531’s experimental irons 2-9. All original grips. They have some wear since my grandfather played with them, but they are long hosseled and have precision on the blade.

 

A little back story: my grandfather was in the US Air Force and in 1953/54 he was playing in the Air Force golf tournament they had in Miami Springs. If people respond I’ll get the exact year since he has a trophy for winning it! But according to my grandpa’s best memory, the club pro was out that day and the assistant pro sold him these clubs after watching him hit on the practice range. He later found out he wasn’t supposed to do that and they were to be shipped back to Mr. Hogan.

 

I’ve uploaded the photos to Imgur, but it doesn’t like the link is there a better site y’all use? Just want to share the photos for appreciation/advice/info purposes. Thanks!

I'm guessing your inability to link the pics could be due to your forum status.  It reads Validating - Unconfirmed.  When the WRX gods are satisfied you're not a spammer or bot, you'll probably be able to post pics.

looks like the '55 Precision....hopefully one of the Hogan experts will weigh in w/better info
