Lightest carry bag

Recommended Posts

I have an Ogio bag, bought probably 7-10 years ago. At that time, I think I posted on a forum and this was touted as about as light as it gets. Seems that people commented that college golfers use it more than any other. Whatever, it is sure light... 2.5 lbs. (I weighed it!) The lightest I have seen on a google search for current models is 2.9 lbs. Do you know of a lighter bag?

My bag does not have a stand. That's good for light weight, not so good for an aging back. Which I have. I will try mine (haven't played in years) but I might want a stand bag, not sure.

I see some stand bags do not have any kind of knob gizmo on the bottom of the stand legs. Seems it would penetrate soft ground since it's just essentially a rod. Would rather have a stand with knobs on the end or do you think it matters?

For years me and my buds walked and carried, then everybody went to carts. I now need to walk/carry for exercise. What's a good, light bag? I carry 14 clubs.  Couple of gloves, rangefinder, bottle of water, maybe 2 sleeves balls, cellphone, keys.

If you have a bad back, why not walk with a push cart instead of trying to find the lightest stand bag?

That will be the easiest option for your back and still get the exercise. I use a Sun Mountain 4.5 with Walker Trolley and highly recommend it.

If you do decide to stick with a light stand bag, I previously owned a Sun Mountain 2.5+ 14 way. It was a great bag for its size, super functional and had no club tangle.

Weight is obviously important but straps and balance are important as well. If I were you I'd probably be focused on the Ping Craz-E Lite or the Titleist Players 4 Carbon.

I've spent a lot of years caddying at a high-end resort and we get the Titleist Players bags for our change-outs and our rental sets. It's a great day when we find out we'll be carrying rental sets.

Personally I'd go with the Ping because I feel the Titleist bags get beat up, but then again we're putting a lot of use on them in an oceanfront environment and they get stored in the clubhouse basement, so we're pretty tough on them.

That's the bag I have at the minute. Titleist Players 4 Carbon.

Very good and light. The stand has been sturdy as well. Enough pocket space to hold what you need. The only issue is the water bottle holder isn't the best. It won't fit an oversize water bottle. That's my only complaint.

I would stay away from the Ping Craz-E Lite.  I loved this bag for awhile as it is very lite.  But then a zipper broke, and I realized the cheap idiots at Ping not only used a plastic zipper head instead of your typical metal, they also constructed it in a way that you cannot repair the zipper yourself.  Pre-pandemic this wouldn't be too much of an issue as Ping warranty/service was great.  But now, it is four months and counting and who knows when I will see a replacement.  This all could have been avoided if Ping opted for the 10 cent zipper head instead of 5 cent one.

That sucks. I saw reviews mentioning the liner breaking down as well. I don't have a Craz-E Lite and admittedly I was recommending it based on published specs and prior experience. It sounds like they cut too deep on a couple build decisions.

I have a 4 lb carry bag. I also have a bad back and play golf for the exercise and to strengthen my back and it really has been a blessing from above.

Nonetheless, I have figured out that inevitably my bag causes me to lean to one side more than the other even though I have two shoulder straps and I feel this doesn't help my back issues at times. For that reason I bought an inexpensive push cart on Amazon and so far so good.

"Shirtsleeve" swing technique:

1. Setup: Elbows bent forearms pressed together against shaft slightly forward of center with "Hogan" "active/flexed" leg tension left foot turned out slightly and the right leg slightly farther to the right - weight mostly on balls of feet butt of left hands sits on the top of the grip with very light grip.

2. Swing - W/o disturbing weight distribution of legs and feet lower hands while doing a forward press "swing trigger" then the left upper arm takes over on the backswing, it needs to go out in front of the body then back in front of the chest as the hands trace down initially then up to over the right shoulder "Torres". The goal is to not disturb the pressure of the feet during the initial takeaway.

Notes:

1. Only swing thought after swing trigger - extend left arm at shirt sleeve when reaching left hand over right shoulder "Shirtsleeve technique".

2. The upper left arm move "Shirtsleeve technique" can be practiced independently without a club, sitting down for instance

3. The correct feet tension can be felt by doing very short hops on the balls of the feet then holding the same feeling of pressure on the front of the feet and then taking three practice swings with the grip very loose in order to not disturb the same pressure on the feet and on the 3rd swing actively do the "Shirtsleeve" move. From there the swing should be done within a matter of seconds to not lose the feel of the legs resisting, this way this is not a learned technique as much as it is a setup technique.

If you are carrying why do you want to put a massive water bottle in there? Throws off the balance of the bag abs makes it way heavier.

I have a yeti I carry with me in my hand. Or I just put 2 small bottles in abs fill them At the turn.

Because it’s hot where he plays? I use an oversized water bottle too playing in Florida.  Many courses I play only have water every 6 holes or so. That’s not enough for a standard size water bottle.

Well, I don't always carry. When it is hot and humid, I will push with my Clicgear. In those situations, I wish the pocket had more versatility to hold a larger size of bottle.

My ortho who has replaced both of my hips told me awhile back that pushing a golf cart and especially pulling one is not good for the back. For that reason I use a Jones bag with 8 clubs for short courses and for longer difficult courses a lightweight  Ping stand bag with 10 clubs. For 18 holes I ride. This has worked pretty well for the last 2 years. FYI I am 67yoa.
