How well can you see where the ball lands

Funkey

Recommended Posts

Well I'm 60 and my problem is that I can not see where my drives go to. I can see the direction that it goes and I can follow the flight but where it lands I can not see it.

Just got a new pair of glasses in Oct. last year so the glasses should not be a problem.

Anyone elese have this problem? Or do I just need a different eye Dr.?

Thanks

That's what happens when you bomb your drives out there 325 yards. :man_in_love:

I'm starting to have the same problem. Seems like I can follow the ball pretty well until just before it hits the ground. For me it seems to be most shots over 200 yards. Just recently had an eye exam and new glasses made. Didn't seem to help.

This is precisely the reason why I hit the driver short these days, this way I can see the ball where it lands. :man_in_love:

Good topic for Senior Golfers. I have noticed exactly the same thing. I thought it was just me. Honestly, this is the only thing that I have really noticed other than the natural loss of some yardage as we age. I see where the drive goes, and then I lose it. I wear progressive bi-focals. I don't know if that is the reason or not. :man_in_love:

It lands???

Seriously, I have a hard time following it all the way down anymore. The only way I can see someone else's shot is to stand right behind them when they hit. No way can I follow the ball from the side.

My vision isn't really all that bad, but I don't seem to have the immediate focus/re-focus that I had when I was younger.

Same with me. Problem is......That's the worst place to stand for the guy that's hitting the ball.

First what a great question and thread.

I am 58 and of course my eyes are not what they once were. I barely passed the driving exam to not need glasses but they are not horrible. Honestly I need a new prescription as we speak but I never wear on the golf course.

Now a time may come when I have too I am not sure but I can not hit it at all with my bi focals. I would love to get lasik but I am chicken and cheap.

I loose the ball like most of you at about 200 yds and my depth is not what it once was inside a hundred yds is a b**** for me. I get a yardage and try and convince myself to hit it that yardage not what my eyes tell me sometimes it works some times not.

The worst part was going through loosing distance and not seeing at the same time almost ruined my game and my swing. I was turning so much weight to the right side to hit it hard I kept getting stuck.

Long irons basically became a joke. Here is the scenario 190 to the pin three iron in hand set up waggle look at the pin (looks 240) swing come off the ground trying to kill it miss the hell out of it.

I finally went to Hybrids and had to swing smooth to hit them well my cap went to six before I got that mess fixed. I am back to three now and hitting it pretty good.

Just the same I think more about distance now than visual. I am always telling myself to trust the yardage , of course if I have a bad yardage I am screwed.

I am thinking about having my Optometrist make me some photo gray glasses for just distance vision and golf my next appointment which I am already late for.

I am sure if my vision was right I could take at least two more strokes off my game.

Oh well woke up one morning and guys I was old

keep bringing it.

When I was younger, I used to wish I could hit the ball out
of sight, now I can, problem is, thats not very far.
If I don't pick it up right away, sometimes I don't see my drives at all.A lot depends on the light situation, I see where approx 70% go, the other I find by feel. doctor says
when my cataracks (sp?) ripen enough to take out, that I should see some improvement.
I'm okay on shots up to 175 yds. or so.
Still fun though.

Well I think I score better at 60 than I did at 40. Or I have forgot what I used to score at 40.

I think I hit my drivers about 230 max with some roll. As someone elese said I lose sight at about 200 yds.

I always find the ball just can not see where it hit. Hate to ask those I'm playing with. Did you see where my ball went? Course the old farts never know. They always say no I lost it. What they mean is I can't see that far. Wonder if that is why people started using caddies in the first place?

Light is a factor also. If you hitting into the sun forget it. Can not see any of those shots. Just hope I can find the ball.

I guess there is no way to correct this with glasses? I have progessive bifocals now. Got these in Oct. last year they don't seem to help. I guess getting older is not without it's problems. At least I feel good and I love the game. Perhaps I should shut up!

I am the same have to stand behind my playing partner to see where the ball lands, hopeless if standing beside them. I am thinking of getting contact lenses which the eye specialist suggested, but not to sure if they would be of any assistance.

Well, I started having this problem a couple of years ago....went to the eye doc and he said I had a cataract...LSS: cataract gone....still can't see the ball, wear trifocals, have to leave them in the car, as it's too weird looking down at a fuzzy ball and I don't want to bury my chin in my chest......I'm thinking of just getting long distance glasses and the hell with keeping score!! OBTW Just don't get one cataract done.....if your going to do it.........do them both!! I'm now near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other eye and vision is NO better in the eye where the cataract was removed.....Also, they don't tell you that after surgery, your vision may return to where it was and that to fix that you'll need lasic surgery which insurance does not cover.......Coach

I don't have a problem seeing my ball at all. I just forget where I saw it.

Yup, I had the same problem: hit a nice tee shot, watch the flight, think I know where it landed, then hunt for the ball. This past year I had a new prescription made up in which I asked the optometrist to give me a 20/10 so that I could follow the ball. He was only able to give me ~ 20/15, but that helped a bit. Only problem then was finding my way out of the woods. :D:(:)
