Etsy Skytraks

I’m in the market for a used Skytrak and stumbled across an Etsy listing w a handful for sale, claim to have been used less than a year. I’m trying to figure out the scam here as the price is too good to be true. Any ideas?

If the price is too good to be true... 

scammers are all over with Skytrak and GC2. Ask tons of questions, very odd for one person to have a bunch of the same units.

What types of questions outside the obvious? Seller said they have the invoice for the units and SoCal folks could try in person before buying. What is the end scam? Receiving a broken unit or not receiving a unit?

A while ago there were some kind of really expensive LMs listed for really cheap on ebay or something from a seller in a weird EU country - turned out they were real and working. Who knows.

Found this which seems plausible:

 

 

“There is a new scam. People sell expensive items in a shop. When someone buys from the 1st shop, the shop buys really cheap items from another shop and demand tracking numbers. They tell that 2nd shop to ship to the original buyer or an address nearby. The 2nd shop ships the tracked item and the original customer gets something they never ordered or someone down the street gets it. The scam shop uses the tracking number to prove deliver of the expensive item. Since it is delivered according to the tracking number the original buyer cannot get refunded.

They never stop scamming. Do you know where they are located? I've heard of Etsy but never used it. Doesn't sound like a reputable marketplace for high end LM. Why wouldn't they sell on ebay?

I'm not sure I'd be looking at Etsy for purchasing expensive golf/tech equipment regardless of price.

 

As far as Etsy and golf are concerned, it's mainly used for people selling items they make on the side like headcovers, scorecard holders, etc...

I wouldn’t buy any electronic device from an unknown seller. I bought a new SX500 on eBay. When I went to renew my Skycaddie subscription the device was blacklisted. When I called Skycaddie they told me it was purchased with a stolen credit card. PayPal and eBay said it was out of their buyer’s protection window and I’m out the money and have an unusable device. 
 

Take a shot to save a few bucks or avoid potential headaches down the road from an authorized retailer.

You didn’t say that in your first message. If you are local, then I guess you could try. I’d be curious as to why they had a bunch so cheap. Either way, I stand by my first post. Maybe you’ll get a good deal though, 🤷‍♂️
