Red Stroke Lab question

Same shaft, different color.

Actually, I think the steel section has gotten shorter with each iteration. So, they’re making each graphite section stiffer. That said, I can’t feel the difference between the black, the gray and the red. The red sure is purrrdy…

Yes counterweighted with a removable weight. I had a white hot og Rossie and the weight was not epoxied in easy removal!

The black ones had the weight glued in place, so that’s a nice change.

Yesterday I got a Stroke Lab OG 7 with the Red shaft. It has the gray colored standard grip. So far I like the putter, but the grip not so much and so am considering making a change. Some questions, if anyone knows:

1) Do the grip and weight still weigh 65 gm and 40 gm, respectively, as was the case with the previous black shafted model?

2) If I remove the Odyssey counter weight, will a Superstroke weight fit into the shaft as it does with steel shafts? Not sure I want to go this route, but asking for informational purposes.

3) Other suggestions welcome.

I always loved the way Stroke Lab putters swing, but felt limited in grip choice due to the weight being glued in place. Agree with @Snowman9000 that a removable weight is a good change.

Yes the Superstroke weight will fit if you remove the counterweight- you can easily take it out with pliers. I stuck a 25 gram weight in my 10 after replacing the grip with a SS Slim 3.0. Mine is less then 100 grams now at the end, but I like a slightly heavier feeling head. I’m sure you could find a SS and weight that can keep it at the same counterweight as it is now.

Thanks for the information. As it happens, I have a 50 gm weight and if I recall correctly, the 2.0 weighs 55 gms so that would work pretty well.

Follow-up to my above posts. I visited my local Club Champion yesterday to discuss regripping my OG 7 Stroke Lab with Luke, one of their club fitters. He pulled the grip off and removed the weight from the shaft, which was held in place by rubber "O" rings and pretty easy to remove. It weighed 30 gms, rather than 40 as I had previously thought. The grip weighed 75 gms for a total of 105 gms, and I have ordered a SuperStroke Traxion Tour 2.0 which, at 55 gms, will match up well with the 50 gm SS weight which I have to give me the same 105 gms.

Related question: How are the armlock  versions of the Stroke Lab putters are counter-weighted?

Follow-up question about the red shaft. Does anyone know what the shaft weighs roughly? I have an odyssey slant neck putter on the way with this shaft and will likely be swapping it to steel but wanted to keep the total weight similar or even a bit heavier would be fine.

Edit: looks like the shafts are 75g unless they have changed anything.

Sort of related question. I just ordered my first putter with the red Stroke Lab shaft and I want to replace the grip with my usual Super Stroke. Is the weight attached to the grip, or can the grip be removed like normal (via air or solvent)

The weight should be sitting just in the butt of the shaft, you can do a grip change without having to mess with it. I just re-shafted an Odyssey 11 last night and was able to get a look at the stock weight when pulling the grip off the Stroke Lab shaft.
