Here is a pic comparing the thin 3M tape that I got vs the standard you can get at Home Depot. The stuff was so thin that I didn’t even think there was foam tape until I peeled it back.

I found some tape at Home Depot that worked fine

Something 3M.  Didn't have to buy a huge roll, and worked great

 

it really is amazing how bad these feel/sound without it

I called the Scotty shop too, asked them about this specifically a while back. I think the conversation went like this if I remember correctly...

 

"What type is used for the..." - "NO"

"Can I..." - "NO"

"What is the size of the..." - "NO"

"Would it be possible to..." - "NO"

"Can we change this..." - "NO"

 

I basically ended the conversation along the lines of "you know you guys sell golf clubs, right?"

 

I still buy their putters...
