Have tried several types of tape but all of them are too thicc. The sole plate ends up sticking out from the bottom of the putter. Does anyone know the spec on the thickness of what they use when they assemble them at the factory?

Check with a local graphic design or sign shop.

Why don't you just give them a call?

I did call and ask. Told them I took it apart to clean and needed to know what to use to put it back together. You would have thought I called Lockheed Martin asking about how they make the F22 stealth. They literally told me it was proprietary technology and that I need to send the putter in.

Of course i cant do that because I have a weld neck and they don't take kindly to that...

I think this is correct but the mil is the biggest question.

Also VHB seems kind of expensive. You have to buy an entire roll. I will eat $5-10 for the wrong mil, but they are $60/roll.

if you want as thin as possible try the 3m tissue tape 9448a.

Or you can use 3M VHB tape try the 0.5mm (4905) or 1mm (4910) thick tape...

Honestly 100% silicone will give you a non permanent adhesive that will give vibration damping. Just put a few drops let it cure slightly then put back on.

That’s what I did when I removed the face on my 2018 Laguna.

A few very tiny drops spread around evenly worked perfectly.

And honestly, part of me thinks the doubled-sided tape they use isn’t even for dampening but rather ease of assembly — the tape holds the base/face plate in place and then the screws can easily be put in without you needing to hold the face/base plate.

Obviously I don’t have any proof of that but as I was putting mine together the first time (without using any silicone) the thought went through my head.

Exactly my experience as well. I removed my detour copper face plate because it wasn't sitting even and I used black silicone.

Use this. Super thin, high tack and works perfectly between two connected surfaces. Notice it is “Light Duty” tape.

The 3M RP45VHB is about as thin as you can get in 3M but it will be too thick.

Am I missing something here?  You're simply re-gripping a Scotty Cameron putter - correct?  Granted two-sided tape comes in varying thicknesses but we're only talking a mil or two deviation.  I know when I re-grip some brands the factory uses a thin semi-translucent tape. I use the standard grip tape from Golfworks which is slightly thicker but don't  feel any difference. Another example is Ping which uses the narrow tape and spiral wraps it on so there are small gaps down the shaft. Does anyone complain about feeling that (particular their tour staff)? You could probably even argue that replacing a putter grip that's several years old with a new grip might be a mil or two thinner from normal wear and from being scrubbed clean over the years.  Put one layer of tape on and go play.

Oops. I thought so as this seems like a no brainer.  The coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

I was ordering the same…apparently they use a two sided tape behind the face inserts.  So when guys take them apart they want o use he same thickness to sided tape to rebuild.
Took me half the posts to figure it out also.😕

where is the tape located?  Would love to see a picture.  Thought Scotty only did the two sided with his insert putters.

I thought I would add a bit to this thread. I took apart my Futura 5.5m for some paint fill. The standard double sided foam tape from hope depot etc. is too thick as the OP stated. I did some digging and found the thinnest 3M tape to be RP+040GF which is 0.40mm thick. I have a roll inbound and it is expensive stuff for such a small job but I'm sure I will use it again as I have a tendency to tinker. I will check back in when I receive it.

The incorrect tape will void the warranty and could result in bodily harm if non-propriety materials are used. I personally wouldn’t put myself in a dangerous situation, but tend to be risk adverse anyway.

I used the 3M red-backed grey stuff. Works fine.

i tried putting with it for fun without the tape between the two pieces - felt TERRIBLE and the sound was hilarious.
