I received my Sqairz last week and had them out on the course this weekend. A little about me. I’m a mid-single digit who walks almost every round. I normally wear Ecco Biom spikeless exclusively, loving them so much I typically wear them even when not playing. I appreciate GolfWRX and Sqairz for this trial, I’m probably a good tester because I’m quite skeptical of marketing claims, but very open minded when it comes to data-driven scientific research, which I see Sqairz has provided. What do I look for in a golf shoe? Until now, I’ve never even considered anything beyond fit and comfort, comfort, comfort. Ecco has always given me the right mix of comfort and waterproof performance (unlike True, which I thought felt like slippers, but were never good for me in dew, let alone rain).

Some early thoughts on Sqairz:

Looks & fit: The shoes are sharp, appearance wise. I’d call them sporty, but more “golf shoe” than some of the new sneaker style designs. From a fit perspective, I really like the way they feel. I’m probably more brand loyal to Ecco shoes than any other item of golf gear, because I know my size, I know how they fit, etc. So to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but having a wide foot, I love the way Sqairz really gives a lot of room down in the toes. I used the fit finder and went up half a size, although with Ecco I guess I went to the higher converted size from euro size.

Performance: I preface this by saying I haven’t tested on a launch monitor or swing speed. But on my first round wearing the Sqairz, I can’t deny I was hitting the ball at prime mid season distances. Keep in mind, I’m just coming out of the winter in the Northeast and have played through the cold, my irons were flying mid-summer yardages even on a 50 degree day. Do I have verifiable proof “it’s gotta be the shoes”? No, not without measuring my swing speed yet. But based on the Sqairz research thst shows several MPH more on irons, as skeptical/cynical as I am, there’s no denying I hit the ball the best I have in many months.

I played in heavy dew and then light rain. The waterproofing held up throughout. I did have one very bad left-foot slip on a driver swing. I noticed that the edges of the outsole, when I got overly “footsy” and on edge could get slippery. It could also be that the spikes got clogged up with grass so that’s another consideration. One other note, is my feet were very chewed up at the end of walking 18 holes, even in anti-blister Balega socks, especially on the balls of my feet. Ill chalk that up to my feet being used to the same shoes for a few years, we’ll see if thst alleviates as they break in.

As my golf buddy said at the end of the round, he hadn’t ever seen me hit my irons the way I did that day. I mentioned the blisters and he said “damn, I’d take a few blisters for more distance.” Good point.

Overall, I think Sqairz is onto something here.

Sharp look out of the box:

I was just able to venture over the border today to pick up my shoes.  Put them on when I got home and the initial fit and feel is good.  After a conversation with Bob Winskowicz, he suggested a size 10 instead of 10.5.  Seems to be the correct choice.  We are still a few weeks away from being able to play here, so my reviews will be delayed a little.  I will wear them around to get some "miles" on them before play.  Looking forward to getting these out there and there will be more to come.

I have to give a big THANK YOU to Sqairz for giving me the opportunity to test the Speed.  And the personal touch (email and a phone call) by Bob W. was very nice.  A personal note in the box along with a nice pair of socks too.

First of all - thank you Sqairz and GolfWRX for the opportunity to try these out. I ordered the size 10 and they seem to be true to size for me, walked around the house for a bit in the house for a bit and the toe feels really comfortable to me. I like the looks and am particularly interested to see if the will help me line up my body for putts a little better, in addition to any ball striking benefit.

I have been known to have a number of foot slips during rounds - currently in Arizona and it still happens… but growing up would happen all the time in SoCal, especially in the early morning dew.

Wore them around the shop today for a couple of hours.  Seemed comfortable right out of the box.

I have been wearing a 10.5 in Puma, but have worn 10W in FJ SL's and Tour 360's in 10W.  The Sqairz's are a 10 and they fit like a 10W FJ.  Not a sloppy fit though.  I'm pretty picky when it comes to shoes.  I will have no problem wearing these and being comfortable.

I was able to walk a few over the past couple days.
These are really comfortable shoes - really like the extra area in the toe box.

I feel these have really fit to size for me. I typically take a 10 in Nike and Adidas shoes; but Nike typically makes my toes feel a little cramped.

I didn't notice any slips, so that is great news for me, but will be sure to continue to keep track.

I like the non-slip lacing also; it's a nice added feature.

One thing of particular note, I found it a lot easier to feel my alignment over putts with these shoes. The line seemed to be just that much easier. I can't say immediately if this had an affect as I am not the best putter, and in typical fashion, only have 3 putters that I am trying out. Ha!

Will be sure to follow-up, but really enjoying these shoes!

I am rather late to the party, but thank you very much to Sqairz and GolfWRX for the opportunity.  I received my pair of Sqairz Speed shoes, size 11, a couple weeks back.  Due to work obligations -- it's always a tremendous relief when April 15 comes and goes -- I haven't had a single golf-related thought in weeks.  It has helped that the weather here in MIchigan has been nothing short of dreadful, with almost no days where it has even hit 50 degrees.

I unboxed the shoes tonight and my initial impression is that they look good.  Maybe a bit much with the branding, but otherwise, they look good.  The construction appears to be premium quality, with good heft, tight seams and nice-feeling materials.

Hoping to get out this weekend since it is supposed to hit 70 for the first time in about six months.  Going to go clean up the clubs and stock the bag, bring on golf season and some on-hoof, on-course photos of SQAIRZ.

Also:  Special thank you to Bob for reaching out multiple times trying to make sure I got the right fit.

I think they forgot to ship the distance add with my shoes, though

I haven't necessarily seen any significant increase in distance on any given drive. What I have seen since I started wearing Sqairz exclusively is that my average drive has increased by about 7 yards. I see this as being due to the better stability and balance I get and thus am hitting the ball more consistently with far fewer terrible drives due to being off-balance.

Thanks so much to Squairz and Golf WRX for the opportunity. Bob from Squairz has been great to speak with. He is the founder and he reached out to me directly to confirm my size before shipping out the shoes. I have been wearing Nike exclusively the last few years, but was intrigued by these shoes reading up on the reviews in the forums here. I am resident of NH so it is good to be able to support a local company. I received the shoes last month. Included with the shoes were a pair of Squairz socks and a hand written note from Bob. Just got a chance to play my 1st round in them this morning. They are very comfortable. I was impressed right out of the box. I like to wear a custom orthodic and it works well with these. They are very stable and clean up easy. They will definitely be in my regular rotation going forward. Thanks again Squairz and Golf WRX!

Good to know about the orthotic.  Recently diagnosed with arthritis in the toes of my right foot so an orthotic is in my future.  BTW it's still crazy weather here.  Got 30 cm of snow 10 days ago and might get another 20 cm Sun/Mon.  At this rate, it might be mid-May before any course opens around here.

I bought some and sent them back. The only cushion comes from the insole. Pull that out and the sole feels like it’s made out of hard plastic. Needs to add some boost foam.
I do like the width and hope the shoe/boot industry as a whole moves this way.

News flash...take out any insole and a shoe with a firm sole is going to feel hard.

  • 1 month later...

Finally got a round of golf in today.  An amazing run of bad weather in our area.  Late spring snow storms, flooding and now non-stop rain storms.  Many courses are flooded out and some might not open until June some time.

Anyway, nothing but good things to say about the Sqairz.  Comfortable right out of the box.  Within a couple of holes they felt like I had a dozen rounds on them.  No hot spots and felt good.  Not a sloppy fit and the toe box felt really comfortable.  As did the heel.  The only time I noticed that they were different was when I was putting.  The square toe was noticeable, but not distracting.

No distance gains, although I was really just trying to get the clubhead on the ball since I hadn't teed it up in 6 months.  If I had one "want" in these, I could do with an even stiffer sole.  But that's nit picking and a personal preference.

I developed Osteoarthritis in my right big toe this winter and the toe seemed to hold up ok during the game.  A little sore afterwards.  Hopefully once I get my orthotics, I can slip them into the Sqairz and continue walking this summer.

All in all, I can recommend these to anyone who wants a good shoe that is comfortable and not one of those no-support sneaker style shoes.

Finally got out twice over Memorial Day weekend in the SQAIRZ Speed and I have to say I'm very impressed.  Very comfortable straight away without any break in.  Granted I was riding, haven't tried a 17k step death march in them just yet, but I feel total confidence that they'll perform just fine.

Speaking of performance, I'm loving the stability.  I have no idea yet if I'm picking up any distance (swing is an early season hot mess) but I'm enjoying the confidence boost in knowing that my base is going to be there.

Apologies that it’s been a while since I had a chance to get out.

I continue to enjoy these shoes. The fit in the toe area is great… and I think really helps with a little extra stability. The grip has been very good as I tend to slip a lot. It’s starting to heat up In Arizona so I am not sure that I have noticed absolute distance gains per se, but I have noticed I have been able to stay a little more on target.

I also have been putting a little bit better. It seems really easy to use the shoes as an additional way to assist with the line and for me, anything helps.

Enjoying them so far and would absolutely recommend!

Appreciate the feedback on these so far!
They look pretty sharp to my eye. I think I would lean towards the white vs the black. Nice to see a boxer to box that hsould allow for us with wider feet to fit into them nicely.
Keep up the good work!

This is my primary takeaway now that I’ve had them and worn them quite a bit, the width just really fits nicely. I have actually been wearing them while coaching my son’s baseball team and have gotten a few compliments there too.

As to the distance claims, without getting on a Trackman, it is difficult for me, as an amateur with contact that can be all over the face of the driver, to see an increase in distance on my well struck shots. What I do see is my average of ALL my drives, good, bad, indifferent, has increased by 7 yards! I attribute this to the better balance and stability the Sqairz shoes have given me, reducing the number of really bad shots, adding a degree of consistency to my driving I did not have before.

With 5 rounds in (walking) they still are very comfortable.  The wider forefoot area seems to agree with my big toe and have no issues walking.  Looking to acquire a second pair and sell my ProAdapt Deltas.

I think this is a great point that I hadn't thought of before.  I love these shoes because they are comfortable and stable, but didn't notice any distance increase as the ads claim.  At my age, I don't really care as long as the shoes feel good.  But if you are able to take a normal amateur and increase their consistency then it will feel like a distance gain.  As long as I've been playing the game, ball striking isn't an issue for me swing speed is, so I don't notice any pickup in consistency.

What I have noticed is that my feet don't hurt after a round.  That is worth every penny for me.

I'm not an official tester, but I have two pairs of SQAIRZ, the original model from last year, and the newer model released this year.

My only issue with the first one was they were a bit heavy, but beyond that they were very comortable and provided great stability.  I didn't do any side by side LM testing with them vs others, but I felt more stable and confident over the ball so that has to be something.

The new model addressed the weight issue, they are dramatically lighter and if I were a avid walker, I'd have to problem walking 18 in these.  They were able to make them lighter and not lose any of the stability, very well done.

I was only able to get whtie at the time due to my large size, but I most likely will order a gray soon enough.
